Initially I must say that I am a big fan of AoE2 and AoE3.
Lately I haven’t been playing the franchise’s games, but I’m always following the forum and the news about the games.
And with the recent changes in AoE3 I’ve realized that it may be serving as a ##### subject for the future of the series in some ways. And the things I noticed are the following:
One of the most requested things in AOE2 is the unique skins for each civilization, making them more unique and more historically accurate.
This, in a sense, already existed in AOE3, and with the recent updates it is happening more. The game is getting graphically more historically accurate.
Another point I noticed:
When launching AOE4, and its proposal to enter the mainstream of E-Sports, I mentioned in some topic that the game should be a Free to Play with limitations, as opposed to being an expensive game (as it was in my country at launch), and, what a surprise I had when i notice that AOE3 was made Free to play with limitations, which can greatly inflate the number of players, which for me is excellent.
I noticed these aspects, which can be tests for the future of the franchise and I consider them positive.
Why? A good amount of successful E-Sports are free to play, and as far as strategy games are concerned, part of its players like precisely the historical part, and the fact that the game becomes more accurate will certainly attract other history lovers.
There may be others facts that I haven’t noticed.
Sorry for my english
