Is more than 8 players possible?

Is more than 8 players possible for Age of Empires 2? Of course, it could not work for ranked. But for diplomacy and other scenarios it would work wonders.

Imagine the chaos on a map like this with like 16 players?

Currently, no. However, there is some code/comments that suggests it MIGHT be coming someday…

edit: Oh, interesting… Found the new colors possibly… (I was going to work on something and just happen to notice it.)

There are indeed rumors of a higher player limit coming sometime. And there are even tidbits suggesting that it could be sooner rather than later, even as early as 2026.

That said, where did you find these color tags? Also, light blue and sky-blue sound very similar.
