Issues with Verismilitude

Javelin throwers have longer range?
Fortitude ability makes the unit take more damage?
The cool thing about historical games like these is capturing the real attributes of these weapons and translating it to a fun game. Of course there needs to be room away from realism to make a good game but moving in completely the opposite direction of how these weapons would perform really kills my enthusiasm to try that civ and use that unit.

I think the ability to take and receive more damage is fine. Because maybe it’s like trying to hit your enemy more and blocking less. The extra range is weird though.
