Italian language

Can we hope for italian language in the game? I hope yes …

No. They will be using the old Age I nonsense language, sadly. Would have been cool to hear Sumerian, but alas.

Thanks, but I hope in a … miracle. In a game like AOEde , where the Romans are the most important civilization, italian language

Well, shouldn’t they speak Latin then rather than modern Italian?

Also, I wouldn’t say there is a single “most important” civ in the game.

cosa intendi per lingua italiana?, nei menu, o proprio le conversazioni nel gioco. e nello spostamento delle unità ?

menu, conversazioni e spostamento

It would be nice if they spoke authentic languages (they did in Age of Empires II and for the most part in Age of Mythology as well, with the exception of the Atlanteans). And yes, Romans would speak ancient classical Latin like Augustus in Civ V is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bspvbLB6QkI

Similarly, Assyrians would likely speak Akkadians as Ashurbanipal of Civ V does here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=COkbJmIBuUw

But realistically the DE is just a revamping of the original without too much added, so it makes sense that they wouldn’t spend resources on that (especially given how troubled the animations in the game are at present).

Carthagians…we can find enogh words survival by Carthaginian Holocaust?

In Civ V, they had Dido of Carthage speaking Phoenician of some sort (apparently with an Israeli accent, which is ok given Phoenicia’s location): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uunBJbVfRVo

Probably is speaking a modern language

@Augustusman A simple Google search shows you are wrong. Dido is speaking Phoenician. They even translated her lines. http://civilization.wikia.com/wiki/Dido_(Civ5)

Her introductory speech is as follows: The Phoenicians welcome you to this most pleasant kingdom. I am Dido, the queen of Carthage and all that belongs to it. (lit. “The Canaanite bless you to the most pleasant kingdom. I am Dido, the queen of Qart Hadasht and everything that is hers.”) ( ברוכו ×”×›× ×¢× ×” את אתה לממלכת ×”× ×¢×ž×Ÿ. ×× ×•×š דידו המלכת קרת הדשת וכל הוא לה. / brwkw hknÊ»nh ʼt ʼth lmmlkt hnÊ»mn. ʼnwk didw hmlkt qrt hdÅ¡t wkwl hwʼ lh.)

That’s the difference, few words don’t mean the language is live or dead.

Lol you using wikia and me Wikipedia. Punic is an extinted language, Google yourself.
Is easily replace those language for another similar. Like Hebrew.

Phoenician, together with Punic, is primarily known from approximately 10,000 surviving inscriptions,[6] supplemented by occasional glosses in books written in other languages. In addition to their many inscriptions, the Phoenicians are believed to have left numerous other types of written sources, but most have not survived.

So in response to your double post–I never said Phoenician was not extinct. It is. So is Latin. But that doesn’t mean you can’t speak it. In Civ VI they have Cleopatra speaking Middle Egyptian, for example.

On YouTube, there are videos of people discussing the Canaanite-Phoenician language and its recreation. You can even say modern things like when you were born in that language.

So whether much survives in written form of the Phoenician language is irrelevant–there’s enough to make a language for game purposes. It’s been done in Civ V (despite your weird, unbased protestation that somehow they must have used a “modern” language).

Hebrew is not the language Dido speaks. Check the YouTube comments and thorough discussion in these threads for yourself. https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/figure-out-what-dido-will-speak.458739/page-3 The wikia with translations for her lines, by the way, seems to derive from this thread, where various language experts pieced everything from Chuvash to Venetian Italian. Translations for Dido are in the 40+ page thread as well. https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/language-translations-for-leader-sayings.398606/

For someone who mocks other people, you don’t seem to do your research very thoroughly. There is no evidence on the Internet anywhere that she is speaking a “modern” tongue there. So good luck proving that when everyone else says it’s Canaanite-Phoenician.

There are difference between exctint and dead lang.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extinct_language.

An extinct language is a language that no longer has any speakers,[1] especially if it has no living descendants. In contrast, a dead language is “one that is no longer the native language of any community”, even if it is still in use, like Latin.

The problem for example is many commands that villager says don’t exist anymore.
The other problem is the time… they simply don’t add each civilization their voices.

That’s real problem replace the units voices for…probably nothing, they even create that nonsense words.

Canaanite-Phoenician may be extinct, but there are people that know how to speak it, clearly (see above). So your points about it being a problem to record commands is baseless. They have already reconstructed ancient Egyptian for Age of Mythology and Civilization, so a younger language (like Canaanite-Phoenician) is also not a problem (especially if they know how to say “YouTube” in that language lol).

Of course, this discussion is all for naught since we know Microsoft will not be replacing the civ audio in Age 1: DE. Let me point out that almost anything is better than nonsense words, which is what Age I had from the beginning. This is simply about the possibility of them revisiting a remake of Age of Empires I (i.e. ancient era) with the ancient languages in tow.
