Samurai don’t have a bonus against buildings. They are just generic infantry. In fact pop-for-pop they deal the least damage against buildings of all generic infantry. Even two Egyptian Spearmen deal slightly more damage, for almost 20% less resources.
And Samurai and Fanatic are both anti-infantry. They are roughly equal in that role. Fanatics are better against cavalry than Samurai, though.
And yes, Amaterasu Samurai are stronger than Fanatics in a direct comparison. But that’s to be expected, as Samurai are her specialty, while no Atlantean major god has Fanatics as their specialty.
Dude simply doesn’t waste resources. Moreover, he was locked into two TC and accumulated an infinite amount of resources. He fought for 10 minutes without vills.
Samaruai need a small nerf but nothing to large im guessing maybe a 10% damage nerf.
Naganata riders need to be adjusted. Let’s be honest they are greek hippeus. Hippeus are known to be able to spawn with non counter melee so this makes the other player need to try to counter too many things at once. Especially if you’re egypt or norse.
Bushido needs to be reworked maybe even completely. On no level should you be able to aquire heavy or champion for free and before the age you can aquire them. The xp gain for bushido is also silly high and creates a gameplay tactic of completely avoiding fights with japenese at all.
Their eco is too high still. I understand they need alittlebit of a boost to pump samurai out but Literally, they have greek villagers plus mikos.
New moon is beyond broken for a archaic age god power. 6 seconds can earn you 2 tiers of blacksmith upgrades its simply to long of a cast. It’s recast is only 100 favor which is honestly criminal and it needs to be rethought.
Swampland isn’t broken but it is too big. It zones too much and should be reduced maybe not even alot. It also shouldn’t be able to target villagers.
Overall it is the same gameplay as when they came out. They are basically impossible to outpace or stay on par with. I’ll highlight bushido one more time however because i think it contributes to the attrition.
Down below is a sample clip of the recent community trounament. Good example of how both players were more or less equal until Tsukuyomi did his thing. Pay close attention to bushido.

Both can be true thou. The kuafu cost reduction was not needed IMO. But japan has some clearly over tunned things.
Also a single game screen shot doesnt show much. Gaboo beat John Arbiter (Loki vs Amaterasu). That by no means shows that loki is overpowered or doing better than any japan god.
In my games with China, I have far more problems than with Japan. A single Chinese player wins a 4v4 game in 15 minutes. That never happens with Japan. In 1v1 games, there’s not a single Chinese player left on my ELO. I haven’t fought China with Set once in 41 games. All of China has gone above 1200 ELO. But I do encounter Japanese players. So yes, China should have been nerfed before the North.
Im not disagreeing with you that china is insane right now. I do think its the best civ, not just shennong, not just nuwa, not just fuxi, all 3 are very strong right now and we are seeing it play out in the tournament.
What im saying is 2 things can be true at once. Japan also seems to be stronger overall than the rest of the pantheons.
Bugs, China and Japan are ruining the game for me and killing most of the enjoyment.
Letting the bugs aside, China and Japan have everything the vanilla civs have but better. Better eco, better units, better technologies, better myth units, better heroes, better everything, even flavor.
