Japanese is the 2nd dlc after chinese

I don’t mean to disagree with you, but Egyptians are geographically really close to the Greek as well.

Adding the Japanese after the Chinese campaign could give the story some continuity, and it’s easy to imagine clashes between the Chinese and Japanese, while the Aztecs … I can’t really see who they’re going to be fighting, apart from themselves.

Atlanteans coming to the New World to steal llamas for their llama caravans of course! (kidding obviously)

Haha yes, but yeah we could imagine the atlanteans travel easily to the New World with Ouranos help or maybe also the vikings who have the reputation to be very good explorers

Yes, I hope that the Japanese in AoM are like those in 3 or 4, but replacing the gunpowder units with mythical units (at most they could have the flaming arrow but little else)…

Yes, I could make it more efficient, but I do it this way to make it more organized… also since I do it in parts I don’t have any problems (also so I don’t get lost in the post xd)…

Yes, I think the same… for me they will be alternating between continents:

Asia: Chinese

America: Olmecs/Mayans/Aztecs (the mythology of the 3 is the same)

Europe: Celts

Middle East: Babylonians

America: Incas

Europe: Slavs

Asia: Indians

And so on…

Yes, it’s good, it could be an Atlantean campaign in 1050/1450 CE and they arrive in Yucatan where you have to face the Mayans/Aztecs, who have a tlatoani descended from Norse and it would be a mix between Norse and Mayan/Aztec units and buildings…

I do want Japanese in AoM eventually, but I’d be fine with them missing out on Samurai if it meant they fit better with the other civs.

Sorry but that sounds worse than the Chinese TAD campaign, and I’m already not a big fan of that one. Wanna put Aztecs together with the Euro civs? Do it, but don’t do it by pretending that they’re recently related.

I did find Chinese units from the AoM:EE expansion and some Japanese references in the game files. Like anim files and textures for Chinese units.

Yes, but here it would make more sense because it is mythological and because the distance between Atlantis and Yucatan is not as far as China and Yucatan… the other is that it is a Norse campaign in the year 1000 CE that starts like this:

  1. You raid Britain and the north of France (there would be Celts here)

  2. Vinlandsaga from AoE 2 remake (Norse against Celts and Skraelings)

  3. Travel to the south and arrive in Florida (could the Fountain of Youth appear?) (Norse against more Skraelings)

  4. Arrive in Yucatan (meeting and fighting against Mayans/Aztecs)

  5. You travel to the center of Mexico and find an Atlantean base in what would be Tenochtitlan (you know because it is a city on a lake) (Norse against Atlanteans)

  6. You defeat the Atlanteans with the help of the Mayans/Aztecs and the Aztecs take the city and you promise to return one day (here I would connect the origin of Tenochtitlan and Quetzalcoatl as white mens in armor) (Norse and Aztecs vs. Atlanteans)

  7. You fight the Atlanteans one last time near New Atlantis as you return to Norselands (Norse vs. Atlanteans)

  8. You return to Norselands and unify the entire region again in a big final battle (Norse vs. Norse)… You do it and that’s the end of the campaign…

Yes, I think a lot of Tale of the Dragon will return in Immortal Pillars (units and maps mainly, god powers not so much)…

Olmecs, Mayans, and Aztecs may share one, two, or three gods but the background of their stories are unrelated. They are not the same at all.

I only quoted this particular sentence because this is the only sentence I want to address instead of "Europe: Celts, Middle East: Babylonian, and so on. All I did was highlight your sentence and it immediately gives me an option to quote it.

As much as I’d love to see a Japanese Pantheon added to this game, I don’t think it’s the right move, especially considering we are also getting the Chinese Pantheon with this expansion. I know we have two Pantheons based on Greek mythology, but if we are only getting two DLCs for this, I’d prefer using this opportunity to introduce as many unique Pantheons as possible. Therefore, adding a Japanese Pantheon doesn’t make sense to me in this case.

What would be your choices then?

Yes it would be probably more fun to have Azteque / Mayans. Personally I would love to have them, and also Babylonian/Sumerian or Hindu. But I think having the japanese could also be an absolute banger because lot of people like them and their gods are even more exotic than chinese.

That is a fair point. I will admit, however, that I wouldn’t want them to market them as the “African” pantheon since Egypt is part of Africa as well. “West African” would be a little better, but might be seen as overgeneralizing a large and diverse region (as would be the case with “sub-Saharan”).

Mind you, I suspect a Mesoamerican pantheon will be next since that seems to be the most commonly requested, and I would like Mesoamericans as well. But if Europe already has two pantheons (maybe three since the AoM Atlanteans are an extension of Greek mythology), why shouldn’t Africa get a second pantheon as well?

Here are a few examples:

1. Slavic Pantheon

  • Gods: Perun (Thunder god), Veles (God of the underworld), Mokosh (Earth goddess).
  • Unique Features:
    • Divine Favor could come from nature and animal spirits (perhaps the ability to summon mystical beasts like the Baba Yaga or a new unit like the Domovoi).
    • Unique Units: Warriors that can summon storms, or shapeshifters who can take the form of animals like wolves or bears.
    • Myth Units: The Domovoi (household guardian spirit), Rusalki (water spirits), or the Leshy (forest spirit).

2. Mesoamerican Pantheon (Aztec/Maya/Inca combined)

  • Gods: Quetzalcoatl (Feathered Serpent), Tezcatlipoca (God of the night), Inti (Sun god), Huitzilopochtli (God of war).
  • Unique Features:
    • Tropical Climate: Could have a unique mechanic where resources regenerate over time in certain areas of the map.
    • Unique Units: Jaguar Warriors, Eagle Warriors, or a unique siege unit like the Atl-Atl (a type of throwing spear) to harass enemies.
    • Myth Units: Feathered Serpent (Quetzalcoatl), Xolotl (dog-headed god of the underworld), or the Tlaloc (Rain god) could be summoned for powerful weather effects.

3. Polynesian Pantheon

  • Gods: Tangaroa (Ocean god), Pele (Volcano goddess), Maui (Trickster god).
  • Unique Features:
    • Ocean Domination: Strength in naval warfare, with unique boats and the ability to summon stormy weather, waves, or fog.
    • Unique Units: Island warriors or spiritual “Shaman” units that call upon sea creatures or volcanic activity.
    • Myth Units: The Mo’o (giant lizards), a summonable spirit from the ocean or volcano, or the great Maui who could help craft powerful weapons.

4. Celtic Pantheon

  • Gods: The Morrígan (War goddess), Dagda (Father god), Lugh (God of light and arts), Brigid (Goddess of healing and fire).
  • Unique Features:
    • Sacred Forests: Could have a unique mechanic where certain parts of the map are considered “sacred” and provide bonuses (like quicker resource generation or better healing).
    • Unique Units: Druidic units, who can support with buffs or debuffs, and Celtic warriors with unique abilities.
    • Myth Units: The Cú Chulainn (warrior hero), the Púca (shape-shifting creatures), or a legendary giant from the mythology like Fomorians.

5. Hindu Pantheon

  • Gods: Shiva (Destroyer god), Vishnu (Preserver god), Brahma (Creator god), Durga (Warrior goddess).
  • Unique Features:
    • Cycle of Life: Units could “reincarnate” after death under certain conditions, or gods can temporarily restore units in battle.
    • Unique Units: Elephants (strong siege or tank units) and Warriors who can wield divine weapons or powers.
    • Myth Units: Garuda (a giant eagle mount), the Asuras (demonic beings), or Rakshasas (demon warriors).

Yes, you could finally divide them by age and simply call them Mesoamerican:

Archaic Age: Olmecs (1200-400 BC): Basic units with chalcolithic weapons

Classical and Heroic Age: Mayans (250-900 CE): Units with bronze and cotton armor

Mythic and Wonder Age: Aztecs (1300-1500 CE): Units with obsidian and cotton armor

Yes, I like the idea…with the Slavs we could see units from The Witcher: witches (that turn human units into goats or giant toads that jump on units and buildings), werewolves (that would attack like the Fenris and Cerberus Titan) and vampires (that would be like mummies, they bite human units that lose life until they die and become the player’s vampires)…

Would he be a myth unit or a hero unit? Those are two different things.

Perhaps this pantheon has a unit that is both? Just ideas.

I think currently the only unit that is both is Theris.

Cool list.

Would you be okay if the Slavs get absorbed into the Norse civ instead since I see that you combined the Aztecs, the Mayas, and the Incas?

Those three are completely unrelated (if you accept Evolution, these three are related, but very distantly so)
Aztecs and Mayas are only similar because they lived close to one another and interacted. Incas don’t even have that.
