JUNE 2022 PUP - Release Notes

who said that? who said the game had to be the most clean possible? You? Or the expectation on the people? I think developers disnt mentioned this in any other place…

Graphics are good for those who likes the art-style , yes , it needs a lot of polish (mostly on the area of water) but graphics were ALWAYS meant to be cartoony style .

So its not a beta from this reason .

Projectiles are a thing wich i understand they want to keep being homing missiles (just for archers and bombards) but projectiles do not need further priority and they are good for the moment.

At this point of gaming industry , at 2022 you just cannot expect that compromise really . Its a shame? yes .

Dow3 got abbandoned because it was SO drasticly different from other DOW that DOW players didnt liked it .

And relic could not change this because if they did this they would have to re-build the entire game

I would actually hand development of AoE4 (or a potential AoE5 or AoM2) to the MFS 2020 team. The people from Asobo Studio are trully world class developers, and even if they havent done an RTS game before, they also havent done a flight sim before and look how incredible it turned out. Imagine how hard it was to code something like that, you need sheer skill and talent. Trully groundbreaking game, the only groundbreaking game of recent times actually. I am quite sure they would handle AoE better than Relic.

even if i would support a new studio for A new age of empires title . I would NOT give aoe4 to a different developer ATM .

1- Because the whole engine is essence engine , relic engine , relic technology and the game is programmed with SCAR (scripting at relic)

2- Its best for us to let relic to finish the game , they already have an schedulle and they have the plans already .

I would do FFXIV did and demolish it or at least hire balance team thats capable of thinking things through without throwing random things to hat and pulling them out and doing changes.

Sure they do. Do you have any idea how many high-profile games have had significant issues? This is Google-able stuff

No, it’s because “beta” didn’t used to mean “game missing features I want”.

DoW III launched with great performance and very few bugs. Peoples’ issues were with its design, and not how release-ready it was.

This is massively off-topic at this stage, and I don’t see you changing your mind. PM me if you want to keep this going.

key reassignment is blocking the command queue so I won’t use it

evey player that taste the standard of an old game. It have to be done to be functional and delivery dev promises

art style is a thing but it also so bad implemented thta looks shallow in some details. Funny because it some videos shows that it can be improven like this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a_GspU8XuCg Yeah Its about lighting but makes the game more alive as well as other like the opacity of the texture which it makes it looks good its not good for contrasting 1 unit for other.

yup u re right there but there was report of bugs that was annoying enough. Its a example but yeah it happened. Maybe I should adress the game I recently research that is aoeo which it was plagued with bugs on its launch. Yeah they cant relaunch a game but It have to be done before it makes more damage to the franchise.

WE should just pm if you wanted a private conversation but I think its too late for that. Also this forum serves as a neutral space to our opinions. It’s not so offtopic because we are defending why the patch are good or not and quality of them comparing to the current state of the game. Back to the reply:

Yup ik the main issue but again if that is common in general it doesnt mean it have to be repeated by oneself or the object of focus. This is specially significant in rts genre which requires the most polish fundamentals in 1 game like move pathing, etc…

Didn’t say that. Maybe you are misundertanding that an actual issues that is called out = a egotistical oipinion or whatever you want to call it but the issues are there and not solved

yeah not a bery good example but the report of it helped to its demise which still somehting to analyse and take notes from it.

You are missing his main point. I believe his point is that the game was released in an unfinished state, imagine buying a car with an unfinished paint job, no side windows, no interior lamps, hand crank starter, wooden seats instead of cushioned seat etc…
It’s like a 2022 Toyota car that has the same or less features than a car made in the 1930s.

Are you refering to Aoe4, right? Because AOE2de and AOE3de are bright with another type of realism.
Only Aoe4 seems “plastic” and fare away from the graphic quality reached with the previous titles.

I Hope they changed the developer because i could hate another AOE with the same artstyle and graphic of AOE4.

Graphic and immersion Is what convinced me leave AOE. I’ve been waiting since the release for some graphic improvements like 4k DLC which would have changed all textures.

We have to be Fair my friend: this game has been developed for competitive players: all the patches and the tournaments show that.

The most of casual players have been not satisfied.

I’ll take AOE4 as a First attemp for a new studio to work on a not confortable franchise for them.

Next itinerations have to be on another level of Graphic (U5), physics, support of the moderna technology as DLSS (excellent graphic with a strong performance), really different units, Better campaigns and all of what made Aoe One of the best saga ever.

Overall rating Very Positive. Recent rating Very Positive.

  • So the fans aren’t doing enough to show how bad the game is.

  • Or the game is bad only from a vocal minority point of view.

  • I know i know people will say that the drop in playerbase is relevant. But why they left without changing their vote to a negative one if they were not satisfied.

I say that because , games that had a bad launch were review bombed to hell.

  • Ex: No Man’s Sky (now it’s in very positive rating), Cyberpunk 2070 ( Mostly positive, so the fans are still not satisfied) , Battlefield 2042 (still in the Mostly Negative) etc.

Most problems people complain about are really not a big deal. You need to be really pissed to change review, but just look at reviewers from media. They will finish campaign, play few online/skirmish matches and give their verdict. Majority of people did the same.

RTS fanatics on forums pretend that everyone plays single game their whole life, until perfect replacement is created. That’s just pure fantasy. It could be somewhat true 20 years ago, when there was very little games to choose from. Today you have hundreds of good games worth playing released every month, that offer different experiences. Why would they stick with a game that is always same after first 40 hours ?

More meaningful would be if you could rate it on a scale. If someone rates the game at 6/10, that would still be positive, but they might prefer to spend their time playing a 9/10 game.

You have a point but if you put it on a scale you end up with 8/10 (29420 out of 33930 are Positive) not 6/10 wich is in the Mostly Positive cathegory.

9/10 is a rare breed nowadays. Props to the Indie Games that manage to end up here.

PS. What i suspect is that the entire genre of RTS is declining slowly i’m afraid. Or turning to mobile.

I’m not missing his point at all. To say this quickly, as I’ve done this tangent to death, you’re missing mine. Your opinion is that the game is missing all these things. Everyone has a different metric for things that are missing.

The game worked. The game had SP and MP content. It has naval and land-based combat. It has tutorials. That’s a game. You can call it as barebones as you want, but calling it a car with wooden seats and a hand-cranked engine is just silly. A barebones car is still a car. With a functional engine and fabric-covered seats.

Not everyone cares about taunts. Not everyone cares about the art style. Not everyone cares about more SP campaigns. Not everyone cares about the Content Editor. Not everyone cares about MP maps. Not everyone cares about competitive balance. Some people like that the game is modelled more on AoE II than III. Some people don’t like that.

If you can’t recognise that your opinions are yours, even if they’re shared by some other players, you’re never going to understand what it takes to release a game that people on the whole enjoy. Which Age IV is, for the record. Doesn’t mean the developers shouldn’t keep going, or that the game is “done”. But the game not being “done” doesn’t mean the game is unfinished either.

The most of that reviews have been wrote at launch. The excitment for the new release of a beloved RTS played and important Role on the reviews themself. Many people have played the campaigns, skirmish and leaving a good review for this but than they didn’t come back to see the “state of the game”. And this Is the reason why we had have 70.000 players at launch: it’s Age of Empires!!!

The current number of players could show the same opposite to me: the vocale minority who aays playing and defending the game seem to be the competitive players and the pro- players are no the type of gamers i would watching on to develop a game because pro-player=less immersion.

I’m not a competitive player. But if we’re going to talk about “vocal minorities”, doesn’t that include the people like yourself who seem to do nothing but post negative things about the game, as well as trying to find ways to discredit its established success?

Which vocal minority should be listened to more?

Personally, I’d cater to the people who are actually playing, and using the Content Editor. That doesn’t mean I wouldn’t want to draw more players back to the game, but I wouldn’t do that (if I were in charge) at the cost of who we have playing currently.

Have you tried the Content Editor at all? What exactly are you waiting for, personally?

Yes I’m talking about aoe4 , cartoony is the style of aoe4 . It’s not plastic tbh , it’s just cartoony style .
