Horrible idea to increase population cost of calvary!!! People like massive fights and increasing pop will actually hurt all parts of the gameplay since you’ll be required to get housing sooner which mean even less units on the field.
Instead increase the counter system. Give veteran Spearman even more bonus vs cav I’m talking 4.0-4 5 bonus. Give crossbows a unique range bonus vs heavy cav, something like +4 tiles (total of 9 range when the target is heavy cav). Lastly give towers bonus vs calvary late game.
Base building, especially defensive base building needs to become more prevalent. Currently takes 4 springald towers can snipe a standard castle lancer; that’s too expensive. I think 3 springald towers should be enough to snipe heavy cav.
SC2 have 2 resources. Aoe4 has 4. Need to continue? do you see the issue? - different games.
It could work, but you need to rework ALL balance.
10 barracks with constant production near fight → will destroy any kts with pop2.
While sc2 do not care about cost, and all units MOSTLY soft have only counters.
AOE balances based on: cost + time production + popspace (for some units) + hard counters.
It’s all goes together.
i would love to see 150-180 longbows. LOL.

And devs don’t want ppl building walls because it creates too passive gameplay but they want china put ranged units on walls that they’re not supposed to build. So how exactly the base defense is going to work? Keeps getting nerffed making towers even stronger.
Also you cant have tower in every corner of base. There will always be blind spot. Unless you literally build all the towers in range of each other which is way too big of investment.
Ppl want big fights? Really? Dude. Players are making +130 villagers and army supply is 70?!?!?! Big fights?!?! If game was about having masses of units then most optimal would be having less villagers but because game is designed to be make 30 production buildings and spam unit trains to each other thats hardly a big battles. Battles are hardly any bigger than what they’re in SC2. Depending ofc on the race and match up but generally there is anywhere from 50-80 workers at all times which is literally like half of what we see in age of empires.
Maybe its time to increase villager gathering rates so we don’t have to spam villagers for first 10mins
There is no such thing in late game where civs are spamming units. You just spam the best unit available for the civ and thats it and in this case its always lancers / knights supported by some aoe dmg. Everything else is waste of pop
In terms of balance they have much more experience than any of the AoE, Obviously i’m not talking about the mechanics of the game, which, by the way, would include some.
That thing about having to rebalance everything gives me no. The problem is being had with mass units being called “pop/efficient” for some reason.
A unit like the spearman (how cheap it is compared to the knight) that you put a brutal bonus on because you can mass many knights in late game is patching the issue worse, since the horsemen are harmed more strongly.
