Just for fun: a Circle revolution for Maltese

Seeing how KotM civs didn’t get unique revolutions, and Maltese being pretty much a meme civ theme-wise, I quite fancy the idea of adding something flavorful for them as a revolution: The Circle of Ossus.
In any case, this has been floating in my mind for a while so I decided to put it up in writing.

I don’t think fleshing out the revolution’s design is necessary, just a few unique features to keep its identity inline with their ingame lore:

  • Grand Master becomes Grand Inquisitor.
  • Able to ship/train heroes (Alain, Warwick, Beaumont). Think of Greek heroes from AoM.
  • Hospitallers and Sentinels are converted/replaced by Boneguard (melee and ranged variants).
  • White animals arrive with shipments or are generated. Think of Animals of Set from AoM.
  • Include ways to obtain Uhlans somehow, since they were a Circle staple in the Campaign.
  • Unique names for warships (if possible).

The reason I suggest this is because Maltese already has so much content drawn from the Circle, that going all-in on it in a revolution looks like a logical conclusion. The devs also seem to favor wacky niche mechanics, so they can use this as a form of release for that urge.

Could be an interesting revolution. The Beaumont who does like 700 damage per knife could be fun.

Boneguard actually kinda suck so a revolt that is super heavily based on heros could actually work by pairing the heroes with units that suck.

I think Beaumont would need to come from a card, probably one with a fairly meaningful cost.

Alain would be a reasonable starting unit to deliver immediately. He didn’t have anything really insane.

I’d probably make Uhlans replace Order Hussars at the commandry.

But Alain was fighting the Circle, so how could he appear through the rev?

He was secretly the commander of the circle, and used Morgan to find the fountain

Every unit and hero would have to be rebalanced, as Circle units haven’t had their stats looked at since Vanilla.

Beaumont actually doesn’t have that ridiculous knife damage in his base stats. The maps where he appears have an UberBeaumont trigger that lets him 1-shot every unit. I think his stats would also need to be different from his Campaign counterpart, as well as the other heroes. The 700 damage might be a bit too much in multiplayer, card or no.

Actually the Maltese should get the French Revolution as an option to revolt into. The Revolutionary French First Republic conquered Malta and ended Knightly rule over the islands, and initially there was Maltese support for them against the Knights. French rule became despotic very quickly and the Maltese began to be repressed, so within a few months the Maltese rose up in numbers exceeding 10,000 and began a Great Siege of Malta (funny how that keeps happening) that lasted 2 years.
