I was a hater at first with the new patch. I didnt like some of the changes. But now after some weeks playing, the meta is great and the changes are fun
So i take back my initial skepticism and thank the devs for their hard work
Cheers

I like it too, Thank you. Devs
Yes. While I’m not crazy about the way that Samurai were buffed, apart from that the patch was excellent and provided some great new features. Overall quite a pleasant surprise as it was announced quite recently and wasn’t bearing the weight of months of speculation and expectation that RoR was (which I’m not in the target audience for anyway).
(But also, please fix the Modify/Replace HP Editor bug along with the others. Can’t get the most out of the new stuff when the old stuff is broken.)
People generally don’t appreciate stuff enough until it’s gone. Appreciation posts are always good.
Kudos to the Devs for all their work through all the complaints.
I know the feeling
…
It has indeed been scientifically proven that people weigh losses more than gains : losing N doesn’t feel like minus gaining N, but minus gaining 2x or 3x N. Hence some caution when changes are made.
The devs have solid tools to balance teams, using official ranked stats, giving enough data to know if some civs need buffs or nerfs, as well as where changes are needed. It doesn’t matter if a change looks strange, there is often a good reason behind it.
To compare, I think the win rate of players picking the whites in chess, so playing first, is around 53%. That means that in the worst case scenario, AOE2 is “only” as well balanced as chess. A game whose last rules update was probably in the late Middle Ages (the 2 lords from the original AOE2 intro use an older set of rules)
You wouldn’t see Kasparov or Carlsen quit the room in anger because they lost the coin flip so their opponent got the whites.
Thank you devs for making organ gun way way stronger than before, it was what we needed to play ecoless games.
Yeah i think that devs really listened comunnity and most of the changes felt good. Thanks You for the effort!
I wonder if that person, seeing you post their comment, is feeling how I felt when one of my comments on this forum made it into a SOTL video…
Funnily, he didn’t quote any of my messages, unsurprising as I’m for the Romans in AOE2 and he only showed some anti-roman messages, but he quoted your answer to one of my messages ![]()
Yeah, and I’m not anti-Roman either. I guess my answer was neutral enough that he felt it fit.
It shows the argument of “is there enough history for the WRE to split it from the Byzantines ?” indeed.
Can you explain? I’m confused.
I mean your message showed by SOTL a good example of one major objection to adding the Romans : that the Byzantines already cover them. To which the pro-romans say the Romans can be split from the Byzantines as the Romans would be the WRE.
I don’t think we’re thinking of the same thing. My message to you shown in the video was simply my explanation that they would be added to AoE2. It wasn’t related to any arguments for or against them.
Gambesons turns out to be one of the most successful additions to the game.
Yeah i was pretty happy my comment made it on his video i even told some people that a guy with 500k subscribers mentioned me
