Lancer not profiting from Spirit Way

If Spirit Ways effect is triggered on a Lancer (i.e. a nearby Dynasty unit died), the Lancer does get the Spirit Way effect - however, his attack speed stays unchanged.

So, in my investigation into Network of Castles, I discovered exactly how attack speed buffs work. You can check this here:

Because of rounding in the different parts of the attack animation/sequence, it is possible for an attack speed buff to not affect the unit at all. For example, the English MAA is affected by the 20% Network of Castles Buff, but not the 30% Network of Citadels buff. This isn’t a bug per se, but just how the parameter is coded, and I’m not sure how they could fix that for an individual unit.

However, there IS a bug in that the UI does not update the RoF for an English Knight, even though it DOES benefit. This can be validated through measuring the time it takes for a knight to kill a particular unit.

I’m not sure if the issues you are seeing is more like the latter or the former examples but I suspect the latter given that Chinese Lancers and Fire Lancers should have the same animation/attack timings are standard Lancers/Horsemen respectively. Will double check this later.

Also, since I’ve seen you on the Wiki, feel free to also post bugs like these here. I’m creating a list that I periodically check and keep up to date.

Kind of sad that an official list doesn’t exist and that I have to do this, but it is what it is. I’m only tracking gameplay bugs, not stability or performance bugs.

Thanks for the comment (especially if you remembered me asking back then)! This was a nice read; I have long wondered just how exactly this works.

I think for the regular attack, it’s a UI bug, but for the torch attack, the AS-boost seems to be lost. Technically this means someone has to check for all units if any at all of them actually gets increased torch speed from Spirit Way, but this goes beyond my motivation. Iirc Mehter-buff (or Buddhism Conversion) did increase torch speed, so it’s not just that torching is 99% attack time.

As for the list… I honestly think it’s hopeless. There are a lot of bugs, and they look like everything is coded by itself, without any code reuse. Just looking at ATK-Boosts, and which of them affect bonus damage makes one’s head hurt. Or bugs which loop between fixed and reintroduced.

Instead I just like every bug that seems relevant to me - you can browse the posts you liked, so it’s kind of a list of bugs
