Leaders and generals (cooperative in one civ) game idea

I just had an awesome game idea: two, three or four people could control one civ

(Independently from SterlingSixx who basically had the same idea explained in an AoM discussion:
Wild Co-Op/Team game Idea)

In my idea there is two generals, an economist and a leader so in sum, four players controlling one civilization:

  • The generals control all the armies on the map (everyone can control anything but it is organised and separated in team by the team leader)
  • The economist is controlling city development, all unit training, improvements and gathering
  • The leader organises and makes the big strategic decisions and gives commands to the other three players (does not click much, mostly observes the map) Could controle the scouts

The roles and number of players would not be set in stone. Any leader could organise their own team. It could be 2v2, 3v3, 4v4 (or maybe 5v5) in a 1v1 civ game because I guess there would be a lot more duos in the community then trios or more. Also the max unit and building count could be increased as teams wish. Like each general is controlling a 150 size army.

I post this idea because I find it very overwhelming to control all the economy, city building, army training, fighting and also making good strategic decisions in a 40 minutes game playing competetively or not. It feels like a lot of very different tasks that is tiring. And if you can get four different cities in one team why wouldn’t you have one city and share the same types of tasks between the four player? I think it would be a fun game.

For less confusion in the game, every player’s clicks could create a coloured effect that is seen by their teammates, also the selected units. Every unit selection would be shown on the unit in real time (like four different coloured circle around one unit if it is selected by all four players) but the unit only acts the last command given by anyone. The commands destination would also be shown colorfully if the unit is selected.

I guess this game mode would not be very popular in a random multiplayer game because it would probably be tough to communicate well and oganised with strangers but if you see some fantasy in it, please make it because I would love to play it with my friends!

And please make this possible in campaign too like multiplayer campaign levels…

I really like the idea but it’s probably extremely complicated technically as they probably don’t have that system in the engine.

Maybe at first (if they really want to add it, which i think would be cool) they should limit it to multiplayer match, and also limit it to 2v2 and 4v4. In the case of 4v4 youd have 2 civ and 2 player per civ.

One would control all villagers, and the other would control all military units. I dont think they need the multi selection thing.

Who do you think should control Unit production? And Monks? It may be needed that some units or buildings are controlled by both.

If they can give control over the civ for both players I dont think there sould be a restriction like one is military and one is economy. I would say both sould be able to control any unit and the last command always overwrites the previous. The two player discuss who controls what between each other but if needed they can change the rules in game. (Or would that make a lot of arguing?)
But if they have to separate the controls I would say: Monks, Military, scouting for one player and villagers, building construction, all production for the other.
So in case of two player one gathers recources and spends them, the other takes the military, scouts, monks and fights.

Yeah it makes sense like that it wasn’t clear from the title
