Leather cannons are crap in every sense of the word

First of all this Leather Cannon costs 300 meat and 100 wood, which is very costly. Secondly this cannon has only 150 hp and 50 long range defence. Most importantly it only has 3 speed! This leads to the age of 2 where every time you run away from Caroline’s charge you are disconnected and easily killed by the cavalry. Not good enough for Skirmisher or Cannon.

To have access to them as well as ranged cav killers in age 2 is not a small deal. They also get better with cards and are far cheaper and cost less than falconets.

They are more than fine.

I understand your frustration with the Leather Cannon’s high cost and low effectiveness. It seems to need some balancing tweaks. Reflecting on Surah Al-Asr, which emphasizes the value of time and patience, it might be helpful for developers to approach these adjustments with care and strategic insight. Thanks for bringing this up!

Leather cannons take the abus issue to the next level. Available too early, extremely damaging to any and all infantry, whilest simultaniously beeing to expensive to stand in propperly as a skirm ontop of really uncomfortable pathing.

Sweden sort of struggles into goon so im sure vs say lakota or hausa this makes leathers feel weak; but vs xbow civs or mid age3 especially leathers become extremely good cost effective artillery. Like a mini falc culv in 1 with good animation.

Its just wood gathering for sweden is often focused on torping and people know to exploit the goon issue so it feels weaker

Leather cannons are very good for what they cost, they don’t need any buffs.

so their effective HP vs range units is lower while they outrange any of them in age and their HP vs melee is just 30 below falcs which is even more than what they cost and most importantly they have the same effective HP vs artillery since they can survive two shots from culverings which Gatlings and Organs can’t which are age3 guns. Then there’s the infantry gun card in age3 sending their HP above 200 so they survive a second falconet shot.

this is the case for any artillery - Leathers are always 3 speed while Facs are way slower when it attack mode which will make manouvering impossible on the battlefield.

Edit1:
And don’t forget all those comparison units are only available in age3 and Sweden has access to falconets too
Edit2: apparently they even get ,5 speed with both ugrades so the will later on be just as fast as falcs without needimg to unpack.

That is like complaining about a few strlets being too weak when figthing, leather cannons are only useful in masses and they do a pretty good job being half the cost of a regular falconet, plus thet are aviable from age2.

They are supossed to be kings in age II, since they were mostly, IRL, a thing of the War of the 30 years. They can be outclassed in latter ages, but by latter ages you should be doing mortars and alike.

Leather cannons have 170 base hp which is an important breakpoint for culverins meaning you need 2 culvs to one shot a leather cannon.

Historically speaking (going off memory and could be wrong though) I thought they actually saw extremely little use due to durability issues. The idea was to make a light, mobile cannon, but I’m not sure they actually got much wartime use.

If you want to look into something funny, the Swedes also looked into moose cavalry…

News update: Since leather cannons only have 3 speed, I just got shot by Soldado all the way through a 1v1 with Mexico, and it was six leather cannons!

The Napoleon has four speeds and is many times more powerful than a leather cannon.

The napoleon also has baseline scattershot? Kartätsche.
