I’m surprised by the number of bugs I’ve run into in the game, but what surprises me even more is that the beta version seemed much more stable with a more reasonable amount of bugs. There are so many that it takes real willpower to list them all. That’s why writing a bug report for each one is tedious, so I decided to group them all here.
These bugs were encountered with no mods enabled.

ISSUE EXPERIENCED → MAP
- On the Arctic map, a treasure is sometimes not reachable by the guardian located outside the map and seems stuck.
- On the Caspian Sea map, the mountain range that separates the two sides sometimes (about one game out of two) has a gap dug into it that lets troops pass from one side to the other. If this is a bug, it’s probably the one that bothers me the least.
ISSUE EXPERIENCED → DECK / TECH
- The Danish Royal Guard card doesn’t show all of its information.
- The Cossack Daredevil unit shows up twice at the fort.
- [Playing as Poland] After getting the veteran upgrade for crossbowmen, then sending the Leiciai card, and finally revolting to the Cossack Hetmanate, the upgrade is still shown as available at the barracks, even though you can no longer train crossbowmen.
- [Playing as the Cossack Hetmanate] Once you send the Zaporozhian Sich card, when you garrison villagers, no button shows up to send the whole garrison out at once.
ISSUE EXPERIENCED → AI
I’ve noticed the AI has gotten worse, especially on the new maps, and even more so on the water maps. Overall, compared to the beta, I found the AI less aggressive and less effective. It makes strange choices early in the game, shown below, which it never did during the beta. It’s also become terrible on water maps (especially the DLC ones, since I haven’t tested it on the others) — it’s basically unplayable, because the AI just sits there stuck at home. I had to bump the difficulty up a notch (which I didn’t need to do during the beta), but then it becomes too strong (extreme difficulty), and going back and forth between difficulties gets tiring and stops being fun. Even though the beta AI had some flaws (which I already pointed out in the right section), like not caring enough about its villagers under artillery fire and cannon fire from your ships, at least it was fun, because beating it was a real challenge!
-
A classic one — the AI stays stuck at home.
-
This was already an issue during the beta, but this time I found it even worse. Villagers don’t always run back to the town center when they’re attacked. It happens almost every time (I turned on a mod for this that shows how big the problem is), with villagers running away, then coming back to gather resources, even while they’re still being harassed and even when they have a town center right nearby!
- On some new maps (Labrador in particular) the AI (Hard difficulty) starts building mills right from the start.
- The AI builds docks close to my base, but none close to its own. This varies from map to map.
- Lastly, during the beta, the AI would sometimes build “forward bases,” but it doesn’t do that anymore with the DLC.
