That would be the mayan UU.It would not be a huge issue as we already have overlapping units already.
The Mayan UU doesn’t use a javelin.
We are getting a unit which runs and armed with a javelin in the new dlc right?
You know what else could make civs look less alike? A cosmetic skin DLC…
I think we have enough regional American units however. Especially South American. Heck just send the Slinger up north? Or who knows. Eagle alone does so much weight pulling as is that it just needs more than 2 homes
I am referring to the playstyle of new civs, not the appearance.
I agree as we don’t have many American civs. But there is room for African and Asian civs tho.
Six is a good number for a continent which was isolated for a long time during the game time feame.
Yes, it’s a good number, but that’s just the beginning; there could be more… America is too big for just 6 civilizations… Ideally, there should be at least double that number, from northeastern North America (Inuit, Hauds, Mississippians, and Puebloans) to southern South America (Tupi, Muisca, Inca, and Mapuche), and in Central America, you could have Aztecs, Mayans, Purepechas/Zapotecs, and Caribs…
you’ve got to be kidding. what’s the biggest city built by Inuits? What’s the largest Inuit army that has ever been mustered? Inuit are even more absurd than polynesians that have been suggested by some people
Dunno, don’t seem to be “less advanced” than the Tupi imho and might be fun adversaries in a Viking campaign. On the other hand, maybe it’s better to add Finns and some of the more mainstream native American civs, igloos as a scenario building like the hut, and represent Inuits in scenarios by combining these elements.
Speaking of the main topic, I dislike the idea of removing militia line. Champi should’ve remained a SouthAm Eagle equivalent, and the European look of the standard line has an easy solution in creating regional skins for units (ideally optional, so that you don’t have to download and store them on your drive if you don’t care about looks)
Tupi are already a strange addition, but at least they were numerous. Estimates are that there were about 1 million Tupi when Europeans arrived in south america. So the population is similar to that of many european countries that are in the game.
I can’t find any good population estimates for the Inuit, but considerin that there are only about 100k of them today, I consider it unlikely that they were particularly numerous in the middle ages.
Well, it was just one option for facing the Vikings… they could build igloos using only ice (25 stone in the game)…
Sure, that’s what I mean…
They also “conquered” quite a bit of territory (basically the province of Nunavut in Canada and Greenland)…
Houses costing stone automatically unbalances this civi.
You could buy more at the market or use the wood for other things…
If the Inuit were added, their Wonder could be a stylization of Inuksuk Point, and the Castle, if not a completely unrealistically large igloo, could be based on something similar.
I figured their Feudal Age buildings could be based on summer sod houses, and their Castle Age architecture would be based on igloos, of course. The few Imperial Age buildings that change would be made of whale bone frames with animal skins. Alternatively, the Castle Age architecture uses the whale-bone-and-skin idea, while the Imperial Age buildings are inspired by igloos, since those are a bit more impressive.
Of course, this is all hypothetical, since the Inuit aren’t a good fit for the game, unfortunately.
A repurposed Norse stronghold perhaps, like the Hun castle is a repurposed Roman one?
Igloos should be scenario-editor only, they’d look extremely jarring on non-snowy maps.
A Native AoE2 player I know (not an Inuit admittedly) said it’d be fine for them to just use the same hypothetical Woodlands set as Iroquoians, Algonquians, Mississippians, etc. (Assuming obviously that the Devs don’t make a Frankenstein monster architecture out of Puebloan and Woodlands styles…)
Not a bad idea, and quite plausible, actually.
There are other buildings with elements that don’t make sense in climates they weren’t designed for, but I guess this is different because they’re not actually made of ice. Still, it seems like it’d be kinda lame for the Inuit to be in the game, but unable to build igloos (just like it’s lame for the Georgians to be unable to build Svan towers).
Maybe there could be a small igloo incorporated into the repurposed castle ruins? It’d make the civ visibly Inuit without being too jarring like a whole igloo set on Arabia.
