I mean that’s kinda part of the problem. Most of the current maps are overplayed and everybody knows them, getting a new map that you don’t know keeps things new and refreshing
Strong disagree on that, in particular with the assessment of the situation. In my experience, most people just don’t know how to play other maps (aside from Arabia/Arena). This is certainly different for professional players, but they are a tiny minority of the overall playerbase.
Countless of times I have played games where the opponent openly admitted of not knowing the map, which explained a rather lobsided match. It’s really not that much fun to win games if the opponent is clueless. Further, it increases the own ELO, so if one then has to play Arabia, one gets smashed.
I would prefer to have a handful of good maps (aside from Arabia/Arena) that are offered frequently enough (let’s say every second map pool) so that even an average player has an incentive to learn them reasonably well.
