The reddit user that analyzed the winrates has updated the post that we were discussing here with information about map play rates.
I expected a major decrease of arabia.
Remember that this only includes games with both players above 1200 elo

If you could pick freely arabia the play rate of such map would be close to 90%, dunno why the devs keep ruining the map and allowing people to ban it, not a single map well not even 3 of them together are close to arabia’s preference, giving the same importance to nomad/bf and arena doesn’t seem logical.
Runestones is just a green arabia version of the previous arabia and its already higher than rest of the maps.
I dont like the current Arabia too but I ve never stopped playing it in solo.
just chilling out right now.
maybe it’s off topic.
despite the issue of queue time or players base.
One of the way out is to divide the solo ranking elo into open map (Arabia) and closed map (Arena). Maybe adding 1 or 2 map in the rotation of these 2 queues so it wont be Arabia and Arena forever. And in each rotation people just need to adapt the BO or strategy for one new map only.
I always found out that people who hate Arabia probably either close map player or causal player. Now if people can choose to play open or close, everyone is happy.
I believe the graph is for 1200 ELO and above. Those are more serious players. The casual players prefer a little more diversity, such as MegaRandom and nomad-based maps.
Furthermore, most tournaments are played on map pools that only include one Arabia-like map.
What would the play percentage be if people didn’t ALT-F4? Arabia’s my best and favorite map , but I still like some diversity
Yes, also playing a variety of maps reduces the %played on all those maps if you compare to playing only one map. So the graph isn’t really that surprising, it’s not a competition where one map wins.
The total would still be 100%
The graph doesnt tells how many games are played, but you can see a change in the overall trend.
….wow, thanks for explaining how the total would still be 100%. Really valuable information you’ve passed on there. Totally what I was getting at with the comment.
IMO, there should be more maps in the pool and not change the pool every 2 weeks
Increase the pool to 12 maps (aprox); make 4 of them permanent (Arabia, Arena, 2 more); 4 maps will be chosen by professionals, streamers, developers, tournaments; and the rest by the community (enable voting inside the game)
Increase the bans and change the pool at least every 2 months (enough time to develop new metas outside Arabia and Arena with different civs)
