Indeed. The entire fiasco is such a dumpster fire. Preventable, shameful, disappointing, unjust, and yes - plain stupid even from a monetary perspective. They could have cashed out at any time by reneging on their idiocy and made things right.
Just as they sent shockwaves in the industry when announcing their plans to cancel, they would have done the same by reversing course.
Yes, the game had as much hate from the AoE 2 community as it had disinterest from the parent company…
Yes, they could have delayed it to October 2025 instead of just canceling it… they released it on the 20th anniversary of the original game and then announced that it would be the last DLC for the game and that they thanked the community, etc., etc., etc. (obviously we would still be upset not to be able to revisit Asia with Persia, Korea, or SEA, but at least they were leaving in style)…
