Minor Civilizations Should Have Passive Abilities

Royal house Abiilities literally makes a big button appear on the right side of your screen, I don’t think you can ignore it. I would even say it’s easier to being microing and push that big button than stop whatever you are doing to search for your explorer and then use their ability.

So does the Livestock Market which is an integral part of African civs, and people still find it overwhelming and easy to forget. No one is going to consistently remember these techs that take half the game to charge up and have next to nothing of an effect for a few seconds.

I think the skills that grant free units are fine. The ones that need some adjustment are the ones that only grant a “power”.

yeah winning an important fight with one hotkey is hot garbage sure

if you are not capable of using the abilities that’s 100% on you. I’ve seen people at 1100 make good use of them and saying all but Oldenburg are bad is a mind-blowingly bad take

You seem to have entirely missed the point of this discussion. It’s not that they can’t be used, it’s that they won’t be used.

What does this have to do with anything? These abilities are objectively not user friendly and prone to being ignored and not used. And many are poorly themed. Whether or not I use them (I do) doesn’t change that.

It lasts for like 3 seconds, that’s not at all game changing outside high level play.

No one said that.

how so? Like LtSturm1 said there’s literally a big ass button and I see them used to great effect a lot of times and definately with more value than the simple XP trickle from other TPs provides.

Gettin free hits in is one of the main reasons why range is one of the most important stats and this ability gives you a minimum of one if not even two extra shots off which is gonna be deciding in any engagement where the masses are more or less equal.

this is what I was refering too regarding Oldenburg and I don’t know how your brain works but mine would be way more likely to remember the big thing on my screen to activate the ballon rather than a smaller one hidden on my explorer that is barely touched by new players anyway.

Not being user friendly is not the same as useless (although some like Vasa and Bourbon are close to useless).

Native allies are already easily forgettable, so another easily forgettable feature on top of that is even less likely to be used. It really doesn’t matter if there’s a huge ass button if it’s so infrequently seen that people never become familiar with it.

Passive abilities would make it so you get a benefit without the distraction of needing to push a button at the exact right moment. There’s already the example of Consulate allies that give passive bonuses so what I’m saying is do that with natives. For example, what would you prefer as the bonus from the British Consulate ally?

A) A passive 7% health bonus on land units.
B) A 50% health boost for 20 seconds that takes 5 minutes to charge and has to be manually activated each time.

I think most people would want option A.

Early game, the Explorer would be preferable, late game, the button would be. It could be useful if Explorer abilities also had an on screen button for things like the Spyglass, Balloon, Tsetse Sabotage, etc.

I only suggested that to make it a passive ability with minimal changes. If I were to pick one from scratch I would not have chosen anything with a charged ability. Maybe something will better LoS in general themed after Danish achievements in astronomy.

Yeah but that’s the thing. The amount of players that would remember that Natives exist in the first place but then forget about the BB is not really big. This game atleast to me is about making the most out of your given Situation be that civ, map layout, natives, Outlaws, mercs or whatever and anyone who views it that way will have the BBs in mind while any BO bot laming Otto for the 100th time will ignore the natives in the first place.

50% health for 20s would be comically OP for anything past age2 lol.

Exactly it could be useful just like it is useful for the BBs, if they were on the TP everyone would hate using them especially with the current bad imlementation wtih buliple Groups of TPs

That was ofc an exaggeration. Tower of Victory exists, it gives you the impression of your army gettibg stronger, then it isnt. That wonder should get a buff

well that’s not really a context where an exaggeration should be used And Tower of Victory looks pretty underwhelming for being a wonder and not a simple Native Post but it could still win a big fight. The Cooldown is extremely long but I think it is ready when building so you can use it to win one big fight if needed.
