A recent attempt by the developers to force players to ship the team mortar card was unsuccessful.

This is ridiculous.


However, we cannot drive the culverin off the battlefield.
I propose not to deprive civilizations that love BIG GUNS (British, Dutch, Italy, Portugese…).
Solution
Increase the damage x2, but make the projectile speed lower to ensure less accuracy.

Wow!.. I think we found one thing we can agree on…

Being artillery, they could use a 2x multiplier against infantry to justify the new option of attacking units instead of buildings, while still not being OP AF (Certainly better for newer players, who might have the illusion of unit damage instead of firing at buildings).

For reference, an age 3 mortar with 30 base damage and 2x against infantry, would be the same as an aoe veteran abus gun hurting a skirmisher, little balance needed as well, since all civs have mortars in some way.


As for other artillery with little unit damage… not sure… culverins would fair better against infantry and still not be a counter if they get a 2x vs infantry I guess…

So a hand mortar, or an siege elephant, or arrow knight, or huaraca, which functions like both mortar and culverin, should get 4x vs infantry? xD

Only culverins getting bonus vs siege troops is an awfull balance change since europeans are the civs with most options

I don’t think the huaraca would become problematic. it could be a decent analog to the abus, except with an actual balanced stat sheet and help out the inca.

Im just joking guys. I don’t really care if they actually get 4x or are balanced or not…actually i don’t even play the game xD

Simple enough. The lower the population cost of a unit, the less damage it should deal.
But I don’t agree about the Arrow Knights and Huracans because the Aztecs already have a huge overpop army with all possible counter-units, and the Inca already uses Huracans as counter-skirmishers ######## mutants who throw stones from a sling at the same distance as fire throwers throw rockets). If we give them a multipliers Inca and Aztec will stop producing any other soldiers.

That would be a valid argument if every single unit wasnt countered by Skirmishers.
Also, the overpop army is a single use thing that reach max potential after 30 minutes. Good luck surviving that much as aztec and upgrading every unit to imperial.

In addition, AKs are countered by the units they are suppoused to counter since they are tagged as infantry but the artillery penalty dosent nullafy their bonus.
