How old is the restore file? As soon as a patch comes out for AoE2DE, old saved games from previous builds/versions of the game probably won’t load.

For example: Save game today. Patch comes out tomorrow. The saved game probably won’t be restorable after patch.

The error message should be made much more accurate and user friendly, then. A player like OP shouldn’t waste a bunch of time troubleshooting and doing things like, potentially, reinstalling the game, when devs could easily have the error read: “ERROR #12345: This saved game file was created during a now-outdated patch version of the game and is no longer accessible or playable. Each new patch for the game can, and often will, render old saved game files obsolete. Visit ageofempires.com/suppor…
