Yes, they should increase the number of teams instead of making us choose between one game or the other… we want DLC for both, so given the demand, shouldn’t the supply be increased?..
Bit concerned that their roadmap announcement yesterday didn’t mention AOM at all…
Not necessarily.
A demand and supply curve doesn’t mean that high demand results in increasing supply. If the supplyer is only willing or able to supply so much, then that’s the most amount of supply there’s going to be.
If the demand is greater than the supply, then prices will go up, until the amount of people unwilling or unable to pay those kind of prices lower the demand enough for it to match the supply again.
The reverse happens for high supply and low demand.
Keeping the prices stable, using strictly supply and demand, means adjusting the supply according to the demand.
Age of Mythology: Retold – Expansion Pass DLC came out earlier this year.
Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition - The Baltic Powers DLC will be coming out on September 10 of this year.
For me getting 1 DLC per year for each game is good enough for me. People can get overloaded with too much new stuff too soon so 1 DLC per year per game would be perfectly balanced choice. You wont overload players with too much new stuff and can focus more on balancing the new content from the year and fixing bugs.
I am so ecstatic that we finally have something new for AoE III DE.
Yes, I agree, one DLC a year like in the ES/HD old days isn’t bad either…it allows you to learn the new civilizations and enjoy the new DLCs more…games as a service and their seasons spoiled us by making us want new content all the time…this way I can give my wallet a break from having to buy several DLCs at once evet year, and there are even DLCs I bought back in the day (Return of Rome, The Mountain Royals, Battle for Greece, and the historical maps from the KotM DLC) that I never finished (not to mention the DLCs from the last two years of 2DE that I haven’t even bought yet)…![]()
yeah it’s like top 5 most valuable company in the world, but they burning all their money on more AI stuff no one wants- To the point that they are firing people everywhere including Xbox. We can be lucky that they haven’t fired any AoE devs yet. At least as far as we know.
Let’s hope this stupid AI bubble dies soon so we can buy RAM again.
Considering Aoe3DE has consistently 2x the players of AOMR, I think it is only natural for it to get its fair attention.
In the end I think it will be a 6 month rotation between AOM and AOE3, where AOM gets a DLC in spring/early summer, and AOE3 gets a DLC in autumn.
Timeline of releases
According to the Age of Empires wiki
We got :
HD era
2013 : 1 release (AoE 2) + 1 DLC
2014 : 1 release (AoM)
2015 : 1 DLC (AoE2)
2016 : 2 DLC (AoE2 + AOM)
2017 : Nothing (working on AoE DE)
DE making era
In those years they work hard on remaking the 3 original games, no time for DLC but we got included free content. Also I think they worked on AoE4
2018 : 1 release (AoE 1)
2019 : 1 release (AoE 2 + free new content : 4 civilizations)
2020 : 1 release (AoE 3 + free new content : 2 civilizations)
DE DLC first year era
Now that the 3 original games were redone they start releasing DLC. Only one year for this era. Also they release one new game
2021 : 1 new game (AoE4), 5 DLC (2 AoE2 +3 AoE3)
DE low DLC years
In those years I think they make the bare minimum of DLC because AoM Retold needed a lot of work (they even sacrifice an AoE3 DLC). Also they try to revive AoE1 puting him in AoE2 but hey fail. They also put Victors and Vanquished as a piecemeal to us waiting for the first half of 2024 and I thnik if they didn’t hire the team for Chronicles we could have only 1 AoE2 DLC for AoE2 in 2024 (and a bad one).
2022 : 3 DLC (1 AoE2, 1 AoE3, 1 AoE4 (free for AoE4))
2023 : 3 DLC (2 AoE2, 1 AoE4)
2024 : 1 release (AoM) + 3 DLC (2 AoE2, 1 AoM)
DE actual era : plenty of DLC
No that all the 4 original game were remade for DE and the new AoE4 is done they have time, this is the era of plenty.
2025 : 6 DLC ( 2 AoE2, 2 AoE4, 2 AoM)
2026 : 7 DLC (2 AoE2, 1 AoE3, 2 AoE4, 2 AoM)
In the future I think we will have every 2 DLC for the two most popular : AoE2 (medieval or Chronicles) and AoE4 and 1 DLC for the two other (AoE3 and AoM). Maybe we can have 2 DLC a year for AOM if they make god pack for Egyptian and Atlantean in addition of a normal DLC (1 new pantheon + campaign).
Personal wanting about DLC
IMO I want two DLC for AoE2 one of each for the two game mode (normal and Chronicles). I wanted a Chronicles DLC for the end of the year but they made a normal one, I’m equally happy (I understand they work on Theme for their DLC in various game : Asia, America, Northern Europe) with the Viking DLC in AoE2 that if they has released a Chronicles DLC instead. For the next year I am sure they will release at least 2 AoE2 DLC and I hope one of them will be Chronicles because Chronicles was a the best new thing they ad in the franchise in those years (for me it’s the real AoE1 DE) and there is cross-play between the two game mode.
I love AoE3 because this is more an Age of gunpowder, shattering buildings and ship, knocking unit is fun. Also this is the most accurate historically game of the series. Very nice thing to let us discover the DLC with the open Beta (I will preorder it), the second good surprise after Chronicles in 2024. Please make at least 1 DLC by year.
I love AoM for the very good campaigns and the fact that I can destroy cities with divine powers. Please make at least 1 DLC by year.
For AoE4 there is no nostalgia but it’s a very good game and he is popular, 2 DLC by year seem fair. The crucible is very good (and soon in coop). Maybe it can be good ta ad this game mode in AoE2 ? I hope that they put more campaigns, the last one (Yue Fei) was very good, the most AoE2 like of AoE4.
They release plenty of DLC so I don’t think they work on AoE5 except if they have hired another team or if they prepare an AoE4 Chronicles like, putting antiquity civilizations in AoE4.
Exactly, and that sounds good to me…
That year, by November, The Last Khans was already finished for the 2 HD, but since they were working on the 1 DE, they moved it to be a launch expansion alongside the 2 DE…
Yes, Chronicles saved their bacon and the year… otherwise 2024 would have been the worst year for AoE 2 (and the entire saga if don’t count AoEM and AoMR lauches)…
Yes, back in the ES era TSA would have been its only expansion and that’s it…
Yes, the best year in the entire saga’s history… and that’s not counting the release of AoE Mobile on PC a month ago…
Yes, I agree… next year there will be DLC for AoE 2 (March), AoE 4 (June), AoM (September) and AoE 2 again (Chronicles of Rome?) (December)…
If we don’t count the original campaigns lol…that’s why I’m correcting them, putting the Maltese in Blood, the British and Hauds in Ice, and the United States (the multiplayer one) in Steel, Fire, and Shadow…
Nah, that’s still a ways off… at the earliest AoE 5 could come out next year in 2027 and at the latest 2033 (playing it on the atomized Moscow Metro with Artyom and maybe John Connor too
)…
the way i see it, now that i played enough hours on all of the franchise minus aoe1 and only bare minimum of aoe4 (crucible is a good excuse to go for it), its only good to get aoe3 its dlc a year not just for players but also WE, its better to have income nicely spread on many sources vs leaving one or more unattended especially when the game engine is shared with another entry, reducing the initial friction on content development
backend of aoe3 de and aom retold is so similar you can port many of the mods basically without any changes between the 2
We wont know the real AoE3DE player base until the Free to Play version ends in a few weeks.
But player count doesn’t really matter that much. AoE3 is a lot more multiplayer focused while AoM is more single player focused. AoE3 offers the complex dock building system which allows a lot of different strategies and gameplay depth but they added 0 new campaings to the Definitive Edition, just a hand full of unconnected scenarios.
4.2% of AoMR players finished the first scenario of the Aztec campaign while only 3.7% of players had a victory with the Maltese (civilisation added in the last DLC before AoMR released). So despite this DLC being around longer then AoMR in general less players bought it then the Aztec DLC that just released a few months ago.
And I’m not cherry picking, the African civilisations from the previous DLC have lower rates and the previous AoMR DLCs have much higher rates.
In the end I think both games are very similarly profitable and the content for them costs similar amounts of money.
Also this. More DLC for one game mean the purchase rates go down. People are only willing to buy that much. Making DLC for multiple games taps into multiple player bases.
sur aoe3 DE je ne joue ni en campagne, ni en multi, je joue à pas mal d’escarmouche, en fait j’y joue sur la carte “inconnu” en choix de civilisations random
They had to stop supporting AoE III because they had to work on the two DLCs included in the Premium Edition. I heard at the time that they had to release them within one year due to Steam’s policies. Now that they are no longer under those constraints, I think they will work on both AoE III and AoMR, just more slowly.
Abit weird how the steam db has ground to a halt for the past 6 days though
Yes, they’ll be alternating between one game and the other…
