I’d love to see Dacians, Scythians, Ethiopians and others. I think that in order to do that they will (hopefully) make an expansion or two, like the Forgotten Empires team made for AoE 2 HD.
Well, the first game had 16 civilizations, and all of them had something unique to them.
While i wholeheartedly agree, that more civilizations would be great(personally I’d like to see the huns), The ones we already have should be balanced out and it definitely isn’t simple.
P.S.: I think that 16 civilizations is more than enough.
I’d like to see the kingdom of Kush (aka Nubia) added. They would make logical competitors for the Egyptian civilization. Maybe Aksumite Ethiopia too, unless that’s too much overlap with the “African Kingdoms” expansion pack for AoE II: HD.

The presence of new civilizations would probably be out of context.
It would be nice to see even more aesthetic characterization of the already existing civilizations (even units).
Agreed on this. For instance, I’d love to see Yamato Broad Swordsman not looking so dang Greek, and instead looking, uh, Japanese.
because I’m a damn weeaboo, that’s why!
150 civ like aoe2 HD (goth and spain / porto /italians is so unlogical). Much better too add more unit skin than create an infinite number of civ.

I feel the same about graphical diversity with regards to the units. It is a bit silly seeing ancient Egyptians fight with Greek-looking units. Hopefully this could be patched or modded in if it isn’t taken care of before release.

Still, it’s not a small request. AT ALL… I’m sure it was a metric [redacted]-ton of work to make the graphics they’ve made so far, and this would be 4x that amount of extra work, if every unit had five varieties, the way that every building does. (Greek, Egyptian, Babylonian, East Asian, and Roman)
So it’s a huge thing to ask from the devs, and it’s a downright silly thing to expect any modder to do in their spare time, although there are certainly modders out there crazy enough to do something like that. But it would take forever and the quality might not be the best.
I would love to have many types of civ so that experience during the game would not outside monotonous in long run

I hope that the devs will do this, it’s much more historical correct.

Oh sorry I meant Numidia.

Yes. Same goes for the Meso-American civs. Add three of both. I don’t mind the ‘overlap’, I like it when you’ve got a good prequel.
Maybe expand the game at a later date eh, like they did with AoE 2 and AoM? This is a remake, so I’d expect the game to be as close as possible to the original, just with support for better graphics and newer OS
Personally, I would like to see Israelites added. Even if one doesn’t believe the Bible, Israel according to history played a large role in the region and times dealt in the Age of Empire and Rise of Rome time frame. They conquered Canaan (modern Palestine), set up a kingdom, divided in civil war, the northern kingdom fell to Assyria, the southern fell to Babylon, They were released to rebuild Jerusalem by Persia, they sat on the battle lines during the wars between Greece and Egypt after the death of Alexander the Great, and lastly they had several small revolts against Rome which culminated in the third destruction of Jerusalem in AD 70.

There were no Incas or Vikings during the AoE1 time period. Instead of those, I’d like to see Germans and Celts and the Vedic civilization added. If you want new world civs, perhaps also Mayans and Olmecs.
Germans would be various Gothic tribes and people groups collectively called by the Romans as barbarians (literally meaning: ones without history). The Celts would actually be called the Picts who would not live in Scotland or Ireland but in Caledonia. If they wish to remain true to the history, the names and civs will need to reflect the people an societies as they knew themselves. Perhaps for the lesser known peoples the modern people group can be mentioned in a tool tips display with an explanation of who these people are and why the modern designation for the culture is not used.
duplicate glitch

the unofficial UPatch changed the tilesets of some civs so that they were more historically accurate, let’s hope AOE DE inherits that upgrade

No, Goths were only one of the various Germanic tribes of the time and they were too late for the game’s timeframe. When I was talking about the Germans, I mostly meant the tribes Marcomanni, Alamanni, Sicambri and Quadi that actually fought Rome in the later parts of the period. But none of those tribes were significant enough individually, so I think an wider term like Germans would be better for the civilization.
Picts were also only one of many Celtic tribes and they didn’t really do anything significant during the time period. I was mainly referring to the Celts of Gaul and Hispania and kingdoms like Noricum.
The AOE was created for antiquity, civilization fights should be around the same period, eg Phoenicians, Minoans, Mycenaeans, and many other or city states Sparta, Carthage, and so on.
