New DLC - The Viking Sagas

The main character of the new campaigns, Harald Hardrada himself.

Harald Fairhair could also be interesting, as he unified small Norse kingdoms during the Viking Age and became known as the first King of Norway.

More kings of Norway:

Yes, in my opinion the Vikings would keep all their AIs…the Danes would have Danish AIs (from Margaret I to Frederick II) (1387-1588) and the Varangians Swedish AIs (from Eric VII to Albert of Mecklenburg) (970-1389)…if they later add the Swedes or rename the Varangians to Swedes in AoE 2 they would use the House of Vasa kings from Gustav I to Sigismund III (1523-1599)…

Already a V&V scenario.

Yes, we won’t be getting any more Viking scenarios after this DLC… you have the 5 from VaV plus whatever comes next…

Tbf, Ragnar and Ironside were both Swedish kings (and Ragnar was also king of Denmark), and the York scenario deals with the establishment of Danelaw so it should be the Danes.

Meaning, three of the six current Viking scenarios could in theory be played as a different civ, rather than Vikings/Norse.

As for other options, you could technically also make a campaign out of the Norse-Gaels. Kingdom of Jorvik or Kingdom of the Isles should fall under the Norse/Norwegian umbrella.

Maybe kind of Huskarl like? but since they have the armor stuff maybe thats why theyre weak vs Cavalry

Either just a copy paste from Militia line or combination of good PA, bad MA, and low attack - like WFG without the attack bonus vs cavalry.

Could it be the varangian wonder at the top right? The small tables and the ground seems to be part of the building

Do you think that building is a scenario editor only, or will it be the unique building for the Vrangians?

I am not talking about the building in the middle but the one barely on the picture on the top right.

With that description, I expect Varangian Guards to be almost as good against cavalry as Temple Guards, and better than Fire Lancers, but maybe not so much resistant to archers.

I know, I am talking about the building in the middle

I am generally curious about all the new infantries added here.
Will they have a lot of overlap?

Or are they designed to hit different timings so the similar sounding specifications don’t come into play as an overlap?

Will they have vastly different resource requirements and pop efficiencies and whatelss?

We could also look when we finally know all the stats what ideas from our discussion about infantry were reflected in the designs.

Maybe this is a form of test of the devs what does infantry need to be generally viable without being broken. Though I think the latter one will be almost impossible to solve without a proper counter available to all civs.

Like the Lithuanians having their cavalry banned and replacing the Monastery with the Pagan Shrine (a sacred tree).

Rollo, Erik the Red, Norwegian kings.
If the remaining things that “Viking” can refer to have become more specific, they could just be renamed to Norwegians or Norse. So the civs could be collectively called the Viking civs, like the Bengalis, Dravidians, Hindustanis, and Gurjaras could be collectively called the Indian civs.

I just checked the information for the three new campaigns, and I feel that, except for the first one, “The Exiled Prince,” where it is reasonable for players to play as the Vikings and Varangians from Harald’s perspective, the second and third ones, “The Hard Ruler” and “The Last Viking,” are logically not supposed to be playable as the Danes and Saxons from Harald’s perspective.

I guess the narrator might not be Harald himself or someone close to him, but rather a relatively neutral figure, such as a scholar from a later period, or maybe the final winner, William the Conqueror. The story could be presented in a neutral way, for example, starting with where the Norwegians achieved victories, followed by where the Danes/Saxons successfully counterattacked, and so on. This way, the player will play as both sides of the conflict within a single campaign, the scenes could first be the Vikings and then switch to the Danes/Saxons in the next one.

I know at least 5 viking obsessed people who would pop the champagne bottle at seeing it go. Remove the horns on the Berserks helmets while you’re at it. Give it to a civ where it at least fits thematically.
