New DLC - The Viking Sagas

You are your worst enemy sometimes.

Sounds like I should make an Oceania mod if I want a decent chance of getting DLC revolving around it.

What determines being worthy? I mean there’s been civ crafters with brilliant ideas forever but only those who can flawlessly make the civs and never messed up once seem to be anointeD

Everyone hates people who make mistakes

That’s Harold the Magyar!

Launch trailer. But the link in the description says Page not found.

Perhaps, although recently they seem to have been synchronising DLC themes between different games in the franchise. I’m not aware of The Viking Sagas drawing from any mods at all, but it does match up with the AoE3 and AoE4 DLCs.

You mean what determines which mods they choose to draw inspiration from? Your guess is as good as mine, probably a combination of factors.

BUG in the campaign:

the Drakkar appears as a Baochuan (Treasure Ship), a unique unit of AoE IV and AoE3 from Chinese, but in AoE2.

Maybe they make a Model for the units as a Beta for AoE2, never released, and we found it, Jejeje.

UPDATE: False Alarm: Yeah, was a mod… a mod of a Chinese Custom Campaign, with indication in chinese. Sorry for the mistake. I gonna suppose they use the drakkars as the treasure ship for that campaign.

You sure you don’t have any mods installed? If not that this would indeed be a very interesting finding. Those treasure ships look unpolished but very interesting to know what they were originally intended for.

That’s actually caused by the Zheng He mod (I think the full name is Zheng He’s Voyage). I didn’t remember the name, so it was hard finding and deactivating it.

Admiral Huang likes this…

Playing the campaign, I feel like the Drakkar ships are really overpowered; at tech level 16, you can take down any other ship.

Then again, the real issue might be that since the battles are exclusively between Vikings and against the AI, it’s hard to tell if their weakness is concentrated galleys or not.

I loved the Danish Jomsviking; it gives me a few ideas of what the version in AoE4 could look like.

I actually did expect a bit more, specifically form saxons and varangians.

Maybe I also didn’t thought enough about lower elos, actually. My bad, I only had mid high - pro level in mind when making my conclusion.

But I also expect all the civs to raise a bit, they have lots of tools and eco bonusses that need to be figured out how to use optimally. So - I think at least one of them will clmib to 51-52 %.

Vikings Sagas at #87 on the Steam Charts by revenue for 22-29/9/2026. Well done!

Masmorrah said TLC was the only AOE2 DLC that did not chart in the top 100 on its release.

Viking one is pretty obvious its marketing was great and everybody likes vikings.

I wonder how much of the reason why people prefer European DLC is because every civ outside of Europe looks really odd because of all the European looking generic units.

Now the only none European looking generic units (Cavalry Archer) got a regional variant for Europe making European civs look even more consistent while everyone else looks as bad as ever.

The generic skins don’t really fit Nordic civs though but they are certainly less out of place then they are for African and American civs. The Tupi training Arbalesters looks way worse then the Varangians training Cavaliers for sure.

Maybe because the middle age is a European concept…

Here’s a quick before-and-after comparison. I think the difference in atmosphere is like night and day. I love this DLC.
