The freed up space gives a good reason to add new custom graphics. They are also able to hold to their hardware space requirements note in all stores.
They will not give it for free first all 48 civis will come then only maybe at best this will come.
Or maybe just make it simply an optional dlc. Those eho want them can get them. And those who dont, dont havd to worry about it and everyone wins.
How about letās first try to introduce the regional/unique skins of villagers, monks, castles and monasteries for every civ?
We can try some first to see the pros and cons of the regional/unique skins, then talk about what other units/buildings are worth having the regional/unique skins too, and whether they should be completely banned, mod-only, or set by the official default.
I donāt think the devs want to make aoe2 look like aoe4. I mean, civ variety is nice but we already have some new architecture sets that didnāt exist in HD edition.
It is normal that the new civs are getting more āāinnovativeāā stuff bcos, if you didnāt know, it was released in 1999. Nowadays people demand more unique bonuses and units for the DLCs.
It has to be clientside. Imagine a pack that simply swaps the sprites of spear and archer line for example. Thatās terrifying if the enemy sees they too because itās screws up everything visual and could be close to cheating.
This would be awesome.
It would be little work for them and enable lotās of awesome mods.
And everything will multiplayer compatible.
Iāve been wanting this for years.
It would also be nice if there was an easy way to remove the glow from hero units so they could be used for mods too.
Another issue is that the number of sprites is hardcoded in data too so modders have work around this, but thatās something that canāt easily be fixed.
You can remove this easily via Modify Attribute in the Editor, and likely via mods as well.
I havenāt done that myself but as far as I know if youād want to replace a generic unit with a hero skin but without the glow itās not possible to make it work in a mod that is also multiplayer compatible.
And thatās kinda the point. Making a purely visual mod that still letās you play matchmaking.
As Wiedrich said, you can do that with triggers. Alternatively, you could change the stats of a unit and restore itās HP every few seconds, all that with triggers
I was never talking about the editor.
Maybe Iām understanding that wrong but as far as I know if Iād make a simple visual mod where Iād replace the sprites of Paladin with the Frankish Paladin then it would glow, right?
Or did they change it so that the hero glow is determined by data now?
It shouldnāt, no. The sprites are independent from the glow effect, which is why you can use the Editor to make units glow that donāt ordinarily, or to remove the glow effect from hero sprites. So if you just add a hero sprite to a new unit (but donāt make it a hero), it shouldnāt glow.
Ok seems like Iām wrong then.
I saw a modder complaint about that over a year ago, so maybe they did something wrong or things changed since then.
Number of sprites still have to match, which limits the amount of hero sprites that you could potentially use if theyād separate the generic sprites by architecture type.
Regional unit skins (for villagers, monks and EVERY standart military unit) is my biggest wish for the game. Of course there would be an option to toggle the standart-all-the-same skins for competitiv players.
I think regional skins depending on the architecture sets (with some exceptions like mongols and huns could use an steppe design with the tatars and cumans for example) would be awesome. But only rough categories like asian, african, american etc. could also be a step in the right direction. I often imagine how cool it would look if the asian villagers for example would look more like the asian dudes on the trade carts with this nice hats (this hats could also look cool on the feudal spearmen)
Also unique castles for every civ because itās unfair for older civs that only the new ones get them haha.
I also like the idea of unique monasteries mentioned above.
I think more visual civ uniqueness would be a pleasure especially for casual and campaign players.
It would increase the immerse level to the universe
or just make them a DLC. Iād rather not have to download unit skins i donāt want or plan on using.
I could live with regional monks, Villagers, and Rulers (on top of unique castles per civ), but i do not care to have 7 different knights, etc taking up room on my pc.
yes it could be downloadable like the better graphics. Or maybe a DLC for money. I would pay for that for sure
I agree except for villagers due to the fact that each job is itās own unit and if you accidentally forget to assign repairmen to your Malian villagers, well thatās just going to look awkward.
Itās really not hard to do, and if they miss anything, they would find out pretty quickly,
How much space do you have on your machine? You seem super paranoid about the increased file size, so it sounds like it must not be very much. I havenāt seen anyone else have a reaction of this scale on the grounds of file size, which is why Iām asking.
My laptop has 500 gb but this isnt my only game.
Doesnāt really matter though, skins should be completely optional either way
