Can you make a game mode that is the opposite of the lightning mach?
The idea is that, there could be a game mode, where all the players have more time to think and make better decisions like in a longer chess game. I imagine there would be a lot more scouting and positioning before fights, more well tought economic decisions. Also you would have more time to control your armies.
Instead of 5x resource income it would be 0.5x or 0.25x.
And build and train time also could be 0.5x or 0.25x
Or make some advanced settings like this into the mach creation.

You mean like treaty? Does AoM not have that?
That doesnāt involve slower resource collection though.
There is treaty of course but I donāt mean like that. After treaty the game would be the same.
In the begining of the game you have plenty of time to make decisions and control your units and enjoy playing. But I feel like in age 3 and 4 you have so many tasks to do:
Economics: when to farm transition, where is the next hunt can I defend it, which gold mine do I need to defend next, will I need to start trading?
War: which units should I make to counter my opponent, where to attack, where to build castle, which units sould i upgrade, siege with infantry or make siege weapons, what resources do I need for that?
Other: What does my opponent do, Im beeing harassed, Ran out of wood/goold/hunt
And to actually react and do these things in the right time in time is very hard. The way you can deal with this is that you pick the most important things and do the best you can and forget the others and hope it will work. This feels like bullet chess where both players lost half their times in the middle game and now the position is so complicated they donāt have time to think through what to do, just step and hope for the best.
Of coures you get opponents on your level so they have to deal with the same problems. I think the game is well balanced this way.
But I wonder,
As you go through the ages units, buildings, upgrades, all possibilities only increase, never decrease, and you have 4 types of resources in this game, this is a huge complexity. I think this is plenty of content for a slower and more well thought gameplay. Not slower units, I donāt like that, but slower resource gather and slower building and train time to be able to make more well thought decisions in the middle and lategame too.
I understood what you meant. A slow mode, kind of a ārealisticā mode ā for example, where things would be more expensive to make or would simply take longer. I like the idea.
This could be named as: āRELAX MODEā or āSLOWER MODEā something like that.
Note: If you have friends who like this type of game, try turning the handicap on and lowering it to ā50%. It might be a good idea until they create a proper game mode in that sense.

Oh I didnāt know there was a negative handicap!
Anyway I just tried it on -50% and the speed was amazing! It was much more relaxing.
Sadly it doesnāt slow gathering at all, it literally throws half of the gathered resources out of the window which is very anoying because I needed to gather a whole hunt and all the closest berry bushes just to go to age 2. And you also have to keep in mind that the nearest 3000 gold is only going to be 1500, so I would say negative handicap is very deceptive and not very playable.
But yes my idea is kindof a āRELAX MODEā or āCHILL MODEā or a more strategic than fast clicking mode.
Strategicly the game would still be challenging because your decisions will affect the game the same way, but what I hope is, that the callenge would come from making the right decisions while fighting your opponent, and not from not being able to handle your own economy because you canāt keep 4 thougths in you head while trying to micro manage you army in two different places.
New players would prabobly like it very much because they would have time read things ingame.
And the grapics of this game is also beautiful so they would have time to enjoy the look of things.
Yes.
I hope they creat a Relax mode.
Also, I think the game could be much more customizable: options without divine powers, options without mythological units, and so on.
Iād recommend Age of Empires 1/Return of Rome, but that game is deader than the Roman empire.
Thank you for the recommendation. I recommend a game called Septerra Core. Itās very good for anyone who likes RPGs.
