New Map Pool - and a forced random civ game mode

I know that this post have been around several times, but I couldn’t find any recent versions, so here goes:

I think that its about time to make a new system for the map pool. Today I have been in more games where someone waits 5 minutes and then quit in order not to get banned. For me thats a lot worse than ppl doing the alt F4 on the “outside” while waiting.

It seems that most players are more concerned about the ban than the loss of points, and they will just go into the game and then quit, if they dislike the map, and that way the system will not work.

My suggestion would be to make a new match up system with more maps and more bans. Give us 20 maps and 10 bans. I reckon that clever people could do the math.

I have heard that ppl are affraid of the waiting times - but isn’t it a “what if” scenario? Wouldnt it be possible just to try the changes and see what happened??

The other thing is that I would love a 1v1 mode where ppl only could chose random civ. I would rather wait a little longer to play other random civ players than always running into civ pickers. (I’m Elo 1000 btw)

This has been discussed quite a few times already… there are no good solutions.

More importantly, however, even if you make a step into said directions, people would get gradually more and more demanding, more specific what precisely they want to play and everything else suddenly becomes “unacceptable” and a “waste of time” in their minds.

I think your idea is fine, but this line of thought is very bad - bad UX will turn user away faster than you thought and theg will not return, so you cannot simply “try” something as if the users are bots

I have to ask what you base that assumption on? Right now we have a map pool that is changing every two weeks, and the Red Bull Regiside was in for a few month as a map pool. Why shouldnt it be possible to try other things to improve a not very well functioning system?

Can you elaborate, why people should get more demanding? Is that a fact, or is it your idea?

Observation. Initially DE had no map civ/bans whatsoever. People got to star/ban maps. But for many even that wasn’t enough, there are frequent proposals that go in the direction of tweaking the system so that only one map has to be played.
And your one post goes into the direction as well, forcing random civ is just strictly a more narrow game setting than having the option to play randomly when both players are fine with it.

I’m only asking for the “random if both parts agree”-room.

Now we have the issue that the civ picker over rules the random choice. And thats ok as noone should be forced to play a cheesy game if they do not feel like it.

But making a single choice for all the random civ players to meet likeminded players would be nice.

As it is now we have to accept that we can be forced to play endless amounts of shitty maps with civ pickers even though there is a nice match making tool. Thats a shame imho.

But if I’m the only one with that opinion, I could just take my 5 min quits and lose the points. I honestly think that that solution is a pure waste of anyones time
