I wish someone would fix the revolution mechanics themselves. Killing the entire economy results in a loss in almost 9/10 games.
Of course, the Neftenyas are basically units from the 1890s…
Exactly…How it could work in AoE3:
Home City change: Instead of monarchical London, the British Home City would become a Puritan Parliament. The dispatch cards would reflect republican policies: more bonuses to the militia, fewer to the aristocracy.
New units:
Ironsides (disciplined heavy cavalry, Hussar replacement).
New Model Army (infantry with improved morale and training, bonus against cavalry).
Puritan preachers as support, providing a morale boost or cost reduction.
Revolution as a mechanic: Similar to colonial revolutions, you could “declare a republic” in the Industrial Age. This would grant you access to massive troop numbers but would block advancement to the Imperial Age, reflecting the break with the monarchy.
Economy and religion:
Less focus on aristocratic estates, more on communal farms.
Puritan churches would replace British churches, with military rather than economic improvements.
Aesthetics and atmosphere: flags without crowns, austere uniforms, more sober architecture. It would be a stark contrast to the classic British imperial style.
Cromwellian Revolution Card Deck:
Ironsides: Sends 8 Ironsides (Puritan heavy cavalry). Bonus resistance against projectiles.
New Model Army: Upgrades musket infantry to “New Model Army Soldiers.” +15% attack and more compact formation.
Puritan Preachers: Sends 2 preachers who grant a morale aura (+10% attack to nearby units). They can build Puritan churches.
Parliamentary Republic: Replaces the monarchy: +10% training speed for militia and musketeers. Disables Imperial upgrades (no “King or Crown”).
Communal Economy: Mills produce +20% food. Plantations produce less coin (-10%).
Puritan Discipline: All infantry units gain +10% HP. Austere uniforms (alternate skin).
Army of God: Sends a combination of 12 Musketeers and 6 Ironsides.
Upon declaring the Cromwellian Revolution, the Home City changes from London to the “Parliament of Westminster.”
The Imperial Age is halted, but massive military shipments and disciplinary improvements are received.
Aesthetics: flags without crowns, austere architecture, gray and black uniforms.
Lobster backs would be great to see
Many of those proposed choices don’t seem right like the Republic of Turkey because AoE3’s timeframe goes approximately between 1500 and 1850.
With the addition of the Finnish Revolution and the Porfiriato card to AoE III, the historical period changed, spanning from 1500 to 1900.
The Porfiriato started in 1876. How does that extend the time period at all?
The Porfiriato began in 1876 and ended in 1910, and Finland’s independence was finalized on December 6, 1917. Please stop fighting and take what is being said seriously. You and HoopThrower seem to have made it your job to be at war with people instead of making positive comments on posts; it looks like the only reason you come to the forum is to pick fights.
Indonesia’s independence was in 1945. Do you think that revolution is maybe not referring to that, and is actually representing earlier independence movements? Or should we extend the timeline to 1945 and let the Americans have nukes?
Sweden ceded Finland to Russia, creating the Duchy of Finland, and the latter gained independence from Russia in 1917—which is why Russia has the “Finland Revolution” among its revolution options. If that is the case, the game’s timeframe automatically shifts from 1850 (where the original AoE III ended) to the early 20th century, reflecting the new chronology the developers are establishing for AoE III: DE. The inclusion of the Porfiriato might be acceptable, given that the card doesn’t specify a date, even though factories as such arrived in Mexico during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
In what world is this a “positive” comment?
I know you get intimidated when someone actually knows what they’re talking about, since you guys think you’re the bosses of the AoE III forum, but believe me—it’s nothing like what you think. Just don’t pick fights where there aren’t any.
Yes, if we count from the Chinese campaign, Henry the Navigator and the Hussite wagons it would be 1421 until 1917 (Finnish revolution) (1922 if you count the end of the Ottoman Empire and the classic British Empire)
-
Indonesia’s flag is based on the Majapahit flag (1293-1527), which is the inspiration for the current Indonesian flag and used as the current Indonesian naval jack.
- In early versions of the beta, the Indonesian flag featured the coat-of-arms of the Yogyakarta Sultanate imposed over it.
-
Indonesia did not become independent until after World War Two, and in fact gradually fell under greater Dutch control during the time period of the game, but they took up arms against the Dutch several times during the nineteenth century, between 1803 and 1873: Padri War (1803–1837), Java War (1825–1830), and Aceh War (1873–1903/1915).
In fact, I had also read an article online about the strong ties Indonesia had with the Netherlands in past centuries; what’s strange is that none of that is reflected in the Indonesian Revolution, considering that the revolution is exclusive to the Dutch and Portuguese. I hope the developers take this into account later on and rework the Indonesian Revolution, as I understand it is one of the least used by players.
The Chinese Immigrants and Ottoman Expeditionary Army cards should be renamed Orang Tionghoa and Ottoman Expedition to Aceh, respectively. The first card should be reworked to send a Village Rickshaw capable of producing Chinese Villagers, goats, water buffalo, and sentinels (changing the card’s artwork); as for the second card, the shipment of the Ottoman military force is fine.
The Yogyakarta Resistance card should feature new look artwork that is more appropriate for the Indonesian civilization, as it currently uses assets from an Indian civilization Home City card.
As I have mentioned in previous comments regarding Dutch civilization, the Belanda Hitam card should deploy Akan Ankobia units updated with more modern uniforms, given that this Dutch military corps historically wore attire completely different from that of the standard Akan Ankobias.
Belanda Hitam
The Indonesia revolt in AoE3 does have an identity of its own. Unique units like Cetbang Cannons and Javanese Spearmen. Infinite war elephant shipments. Good HCC cards for buffing their infantry, artillery, and naval options.
It even has some nice references. For example, the Ottoman expeditions that were sent to fight the Portuguese in Malacca, which was under Portuguese control. We also got the renaming of Dutch Merchants to Batavian Merchants, referencing merchants in the Batavia port-city, located in present-day North Jakarta. More can always be added later of course. That area’s culture and history is quite different than the usual Latin American and European revolutionary nations and has potential.
Of course, although I feel they could add some new cards referencing the Dutch and Portuguese colonization of Indonesia. I feel that the presence of these two European powers isn’t fully captured or represented in the Indonesian revolution.
At the very least, the developers should rework some of the existing cards in the Indonesian Revolution deck, as I suggested in the comment above.
If I were to come up with cards for the Indonesian revolt deck, they would focus on the economy. There is really nothing they have for their eco aside from the food trickle they get after sending Aceh Pepper Exports HCC. Even other revolts have something like a factory, livestock, and/or gather rate buffs.
Exactly; there are still cards missing to boost resource gathering—much like the revolution cards found in other revolutions. That is why I emphasize that many of these revolutions still need a rework to bring them up to par with the ones recently added.
All right I’ll give the Indonesian revolt a shot…
The current Indonesia revolt deck is mainly focused on the improving it’s navy and infantry units along with having War Elephants and Cetbang Cannons for strong assaults. In that sense, it has an identity. We thankfully don’t have a Romanian/Hungary revolt situation where there is only 1 noteworthy gimmick to that revolt. The revolt is weak on the economic side due to lacking anything that improves gather rates and no factories. This forces the player to either send more eco cards before revolting or risk losing the match if the initial push doesn’t work due to lack of resources.
Most stuff already included like Kraton Guards, Belanda Hitam, etc. are fine as is so we’ll keep the pre-existing cards mostly the same.
Chinese Immigrants can be renamed to Orang Tionghoa as Zeppelino24 suggested. I’ll try to merge some effects here…
Orang Tionghoa - Delivers 3 Village Rickshaws. Villagers can now build villages up to a limit of 6. All regular village techs can be researched (Town Government, Selective Breeding, etc). Enables Water Buffaloes to be trained at Villages. Also delivers 1 Trading Post Rickshaw. Trading Post hit points +40% and gets Levy Trading Post Rickshaw ability. Cost 500 wood.
Merged a whole lot of effects into one card for the sake of reducing redundancy. Threw in the original Chinese Immigrants card effect as I don’t feel it would do much on its own by the time you revolted. We can also add…
Stockyards - Herded animals fatten 30% faster when tasked to Livestock Pens, Farms, Villages, and Haciendas
The card combo would allow for some potential livestock booming.
Some unit shipments…
Ottoman Expedition to Aceh - Delivers 12 Baghdad Janissaries and 2 Great Bombards; costs 1,500 coin. (same effect of sending consulate troops, just the card name is changed)
French Interregnum - Delivers 4 Young Guards, 4 Gendarmes, and 2 Horse Artillery (French consulate units). Costs 1,000 coin.
British Interregnum - Delivers 5 Roger’s Rangers, 5 Redcoats, 4 Life Guards, and 2 Falconets (British consulate units). Costs 1,000 coin.
Java War Rebels- Delivers 20 Javanese Spearmen and 10 Revolutionaries. Arrives fast. Costs 500 food.
More eco cards, mostly related to Dutch involvement…
Tanam Paksa - Villagers and fishing boats gather 10% faster. Sends 1 bank wagon. Villagers get - 5% hit points (the cultivation system was pretty bad for the workers’ health)
Vornlandesten - Delivers 3 Homestead Wagons. Mill hit points +100%. Estate hit points +100%. Mill, Estate, Farm, Livestock Pen, Rice Paddy, Sacred Field, and Hacienda cost -40%, build time -75%; Village cost -30%, build time -60%; State Capitol Homestead Wagon, Mill Wagon, and Estate Wagon cost -40%. Adds a coin trickle of 1.00 to all town centers.
Merged the effect of Advanced Estates, Advanced Mills, and Land Grab cards.
Advanced Docks card would be changed into a new card with additional effects:
Batavia Ports - Sends 2 Dock wagons. Dock damage +100%, heal work rate for ships +85%; war ship train time -33%. Also sends 2 Fluyt and increases the train limit of Fluyt by 2. (Replaced by Galleons if revolting from the Portuguese).
And some cards related to the Portuguese involvement…
Portuguese Missionaries - Ships 2 Church Wagons; Church build limit +2
Sandalwood Harvesting - Gives a trickle of 2 wood/sec.; villagers gather wood from trees 15% faster; trees last 25% longer.
Topasses - Land villager cost and train time -15%. Native units are 5% cheaper. Outlaws and Mercenaries are 5% cheaper. Changes visuals for settlers (if revolted from Portuguese) and Batavian Merchants (if revolted from Dutch)
And some assorted stuff…
Tombak Spears - Javanese Spearmen hand resistance increased by 20%.
Raja Ampat Fishing Villages- Sends 5 fishing boats. Fishing boat gather work rate for fish +15%, for whale +10%
Keroncong Musicians - All villagers move 5% faster and have 5% more health thanks to the lively tunes of these musicians.
TEAM Rawon - Share some hearty Rawon soup with your teammates. Ships 1,000 food to the team.
and finally…
Indonesian National Awakening - Advances Indonesia to the Imperial Age. Enables Capitol to be built; Deforestation, Excessive Taxation, Large Scale Agriculture, and Legendary Native Warriors cost -10%; Knighthood and Peerage cost -10%; costs 1945 food and coin.
As always, feel free to add suggestions. The additions to the Indonesian revolt deck should make this revolt both effective and fun to use.
If they happen, they’d have to come with proper Nahuatl voice lines for Aztecs. Even better if they don’t share any.
By the way, is anyone else being unable to quote posts on the forum on mobile?
I don’t know if it’s a problem with the whole site or specific threads.
I think that’s just the issue of using it on a mobile phone, same problem for me. Also new voicelines would be cool, but let’s see what they first do
