New Trash Unit: The Farmer-at-Arms

Hey all,

I realized that in a post-Imp game, there is no real infantery option (besides the spear-men). As we discussed in another topic, more generic “niche” units would make the game more diverse and more exciting (who doesnt like a Daut-Video titled: “Canoneers+ Siege tower!!”?)

I feel there is a free place, and the free place would be filled by something like a Farmer-at-Arms, a end-game “total war” option costing only wood and food.

Don’t understand what you mean by this? Like every civ gets it but it only makes sense to use it in some situations?

I think there was a different thread where someone posted a whole bunch of new infantry unit ideas, hope someone posts there and it comes up in the list.

But I think devs would probably just develop new civ unique units based on such suggestions.

no. It is a trainable unit at the barracks, but similar stats to men-at-arms, but no gold cost

Late/post imp is when Champions shine most. Low gold cost but strong enough for that point in the game.

Its sad because you can be i telligent.

where did you find the sweetestbite quote?

Yes, that would be a nice alternative: a siege like trash unit, maybe 3 guys with a hand-ram. My thread goes a bit in the direction, as the farmer-at-arms would be the most anti-building unit of all trash units anyway (highest melee damage)

Must be the most horrible name for a unit.

The game doesn’t need another trash unit.

Yes and there is no real Archer option either.
The Hussar is certainly the best of all the Trash units (which is kind of an issue) but Infantry is not looking that bad in Late Imperial.
Champions are the generic unit with the lowest Gold cost and they are cost effective against all trash (not as much vs. Hussars though).

I don’t see the need for that.
Stone runs out a lot faster then Gold. Relics provide an infinit trickle of Gold and you can get Gold for a fixed Food/Wood price at the market while the Stone costs climbs indefinitely and also needs Gold in the first place.

Therefor defences will eventually weakened over time while armies can stay on a low gold level indefinitely.
