News For Xbox Showcase 2026

As we all know, all the officially announced DLC for Forgotten Empires ends in May, excluding the expansion for Age of Empires IV which will add Vikings and other civilizations and is almost certain to arrive by the end of the year. Continuing with the above, what news do you think they’ll give us at the Xbox Showcase 2026 event? We must remember that all the DLC announced last year will end in May, which makes me wonder what plans the developers have for June and beyond. Personally, I highly doubt they’ll go so many months without announcing a new expansion. The question here is, what are their plans if they’ve already exhausted the possibilities for AOE II, AOM Retold, and AOE IV? The only title left that hasn’t received anything new is Age of Empires III. Will we finally get news about this title in June, a title that has been mistreated in the last two years? Or do you think they might announce news about Age of Empires V? In any case, the developers are the ones… Those who have the final say, let me know in the comments what you think about this topic. Greetings to all members of the community.

Xbox June Showcase for AoE in a brief

What we the AoE III community would like to see? - Return of active development plus DLC announcement
What they actually going to deliver? - 2 new DLCs for AoE II

Yes, at most I expect the announcement of 3 DLCs: one for AoM (the Incas for September), AoE 4 (Vikings and Aztecs for November) and two DLCs for AoE 2 (Norse DLC for after Christmas, leaning towards January, and Mesoamerican DLC for spring/May 2027)… Let’s consider AoE 3 dead, unless they announce an unlikely console version, and nothing for AoE 5 until 2029-2030…

Your prediction is quite interesting. I hope they announce Age of Empires III for consoles and some hint or clue about Age of Empires V, although knowing Forgotten Empires, I wouldn’t expect much from them.

That’s a lot of expectations :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I sincerely doubt any news about V, despite the cut on investment for AoE IV the newest title.
I think they simply will keep on cash milking AoE II

I likewise don’t expect AoE 5 when AoE 4 still gets DLCs.

Why are you so overly ambitious with announcements?, you have no basis to expect so many things, and specially with such a fast launch calendar.

Yes, that’s true…maybe I’m being too optimistic, or not?…

Yes, even considering that the saga is now games as a service, I don’t see a DLC every 2-3 months alternating between the games as unreasonable: AoE 2 (The Last Chieftains) in February, AoM (Demeter in February) and Aztecs in April, and AoE 4 (Yue Fei’s Legacy) in May… then in July we might get another major Egyptian god for AoM and in September the Incas… and then, as I said, the rest at the end of the year and the beginning of next year…

Why? AOM takes longer to make and the Season Pass of this year has already been delivered

Because it’s a live service game (because of Game Pass and all that)…although I don’t rule out that, as you say, since the Expansion Pass is already full, they’re not in such a rush to release a new DLC, so one of the two DLCs could be released later: either the new major Egyptian god or the Incas…

Nothing is certain until it’s confirmed …

Yes, in the end it’s all conjecture. I try to be optimistic (at least this year), but I won’t be so optimistic next year (AoE 3, with a larger population, had 4 DLCs over a year and a half until May 2022, and then nothing until it became free to play in August 2023. If they start with free weekends now with AoM, I’d be worried, since by this point AoE 3 received the Mediterranean DLC, so every new AoM DLC from now on would be a cause for celebration)…

I hope there’s good news for the franchise at the June event. They’ll surely announce a preview of what’s coming in the new Danish expansion for Age of Empires IV. Another announcement could be a new Chronicles expansion for Age of Empires II based on Egypt and Rome, since these two civilizations have a rich and intertwined history. I honestly quite like the Chronicles DLC, so I wouldn’t mind an announcement like that at all. Last but not least, I personally would expect some comment on the development or support for Age of Empires III, which was canceled for no apparent reason, and to this day, its fate remains unknown. Let’s not forget that they owe us an apology for the cancellation of the Poland and Denmark DLC, which was officially announced, and they never made any public announcements about it. Instead, they just spread lies about everything that happened. Let’s not forget all of that, please. We don’t condone these kinds of practices from this company. I’m still waiting. A public apology or, failing that, a final update that fixes most of the problems the game still has, as well as the much-touted quality-of-life improvements that never materialized.

They were pretty clear that they canceled the DLC and hinted that they wont do any more patch.

Yes, let’s stick with what they did last, which was making the game “free”… continuing to bring up the DLC issue would just be rubbing salt in the wound…

Sometimes I think it would be better if an independent developer took over Age of Empires III and continued its development, both with expansions and regular patches. It was a complete mistake to leave development in the hands of Forgotten Empires; years wasted without delivering any new features or significant updates. In cases like these, the most sensible thing to do is, if they can’t continue developing the title, to hand it over to another subsidiary. The fans deserved more than what we’ve been given. It’s sad and disheartening to see them release expansion after expansion for Age of Empires II, Age of Empires IV, and Age of Mythology Retold, while poor Age of Empires III is relegated to oblivion, as if the community of this title is worthless. While Age of Mythology has received three expansions in record time, AOE III has only received two, and those weren’t even released in record time, as each came out years apart. It’s unbelievable how this company could massacre one of the most important titles in the franchise in this way Age of Empires III was the title that concluded the original series, thus closing the cycle of Ensemble Studios, is now being buried in oblivion by these people. I’ll never understand how they dared to do such a terrible thing, and they still get annoyed if we say anything about it, or they pretend not to hear anything. This company’s service is truly awful; they don’t know how to manage their games properly.

Yes, sometimes they find it too big to fill the shoes of Ensemble Studios… and all because they don’t want to touch on complex topics, like colonization and slavery and continue to squeeze out AoE 2 that hasn’t been enough for about 2 years… they would have to hire more people and divide Forgotten Empires into 2 studios: Forgotten Empires (which is in charge of AoE 2 and Chronicles) and Forgotten Studios (which is in charge of the other games)… or They should definitely let AoE 2 rest once and for all and focus on the other games, otherwise AoE 4 will not stand out and AoM will remain between the big 2… although in their defense, the new major gods take the “times” of the simple dlc civs of AoE 3, with USA and Mexicans… the Chinese were the African dlc and the Aztec dlc would now be the Mediterranean one…

Yep, that would be a infinitely better thing to do
