Hi everyone! I’m giving NFP Editor its own thread and a home on GitHub. It is an unofficial Windows and Linux tool to inspect, repair and edit your campaign progress through a visual interface, without manually editing Player.nfp.
Why I made it
The tool began in 2025 as a small repair script, helping players whose earned medals had been downgraded or disappeared after a game update. Some of you may remember it from the campaign medal bug thread.
There were also reports of Victors and Vanquished and The Mountain Royals / Caucasus progress disappearing after reinstalls, with some completions not restored from the server copy. Losing the results of those long, demanding scenarios was particularly frustrating. A developer reported that issue fixed on 30 April 2026. Campaign reset discussion
Its original purpose is simple: restore progress you actually earned if a profile has lost it. It has since grown to include profile inspection and editing of existing campaign choices. I still wanted to give it a proper home, with documentation, downloads, and somewhere to report problems, should another progress issue arise.
What it does
You can inspect the medals and completions recorded for each scenario, then set affected entries back to the results you actually earned.
Explore different campaign decisions: want to see how a campaign plays with other choices? Where the campaign uses decisions saved in your profile, changing an existing choice can let you revisit relevant scenarios with another path or outcome, without replaying all the earlier missions just to reach that decision. The available choices and their effects depend on the campaign. Keep a separate profile copy for experimenting.
The read-only Profile Info page shows saved identity, progress totals, recorded runtime, and file details.
Open the game’s profile directly or choose a separate .nfp / .nfpu file. Export an edited copy or write back to the game profile, with an automatic numbered .bak backup.
What’s new in Alpha 4
- The three Viking Sagas chapters: The Exiled Prince, The Hard Ruler, and The Last Viking.
- A language selector covering all 17 game languages. Editor controls have bundled translations; campaign and scenario titles use local game files. Editing works without a game installation, using English titles.
- Campaign decision editing to explore other recorded choices with less replaying, plus the read-only Profile Info page.
- Clearer medal buttons: inactive faces are blank and subdued, and only the selected tier is bright and checked. Easiest has a wooden medal; Easiest and Legendary choices appear where campaign support is known.
- Corrected scenario labels, improved profile loading, responsive medal selection, more reliable sorting, and sharper text.
This is still an alpha. Editor translations are drafts, and missing localized titles fall back to English. Future game updates, new campaigns, or changes to the profile format may require an editor update. Check the displayed campaigns, scenarios, and medals before exporting. If something looks wrong, please report it on GitHub with the game version and affected scenario.
Important limits
Lowering medals or resetting progress: Relic’s servers may keep a higher completion record and restore it when you go online. Changing the local file does not clear that server record. Lowered medals may work offline, but this is not a dependable way to start a fresh playthrough.
Cheating or granting yourself medals you have not earned: not recommended. Increased medals may synchronize to Relic’s servers and remain there. Treat those increases as irreversible for the account: the editor cannot undo a stored server increase, and restoring a local backup will not remove it. You could be left seeing those medals permanently.
Before any repair, close the game and keep a separate backup of Player.nfp. Set affected scenarios to the completion you actually achieved. Steam Cloud may replace a locally edited profile, so check the repair in-game afterward.
The optional Show unsupported difficulties setting exposes medal tiers a campaign may not support. These may show no medal or cause unpredictable behaviour, including crashes. Enable it only if you understand the risk. The editor changes recorded progress; it does not change scenario rules or the game’s difficulty menu.
Downloads and feedback
Windows and Linux: Latest release
On the GitHub release page, scroll down to Assets and expand the section if it is collapsed. Download NFP-Editor-Alpha4-Windows-x86_64.exe for Windows or NFP-Editor-Alpha4-Linux-x86_64 for Linux.
Windows SmartScreen: This is a small, free solo project, so I currently don’t have a commercial code-signing certificate for the Windows build. Because of that, Windows may show a SmartScreen warning when launching the downloaded .exe. The build is distributed directly through the GitHub release, with SHA-256 checksums included for verification.
Screenshots, instructions, and bug reports: NFP Editor on GitHub
The builds are standalone; Python is not required. This is a community tool, unaffiliated with the game developers. A source code release is planned so players can inspect how their profiles are read and changed.
Thanks to everyone who helped test the earlier versions and shared their experiences. Please use this thread for questions and discussion, and GitHub for tool bug reports.
