Something that I’ve noticed is that now that out of place old world animals like aurochsen and boar have been patched out of Aztec maps, they’re left with no aggressive huntables. They have predators, but no herbivores that will fight back against hunters. It’s a shame because both Age of Empires games that featured American maps had javelinas fill that role but they’re nowhere to be seen in AoM.
Would American bison in Aztec-themed maps make sense, as the closest American equivalent of aurochs? The bison was historically present in parts of northern Mexico. It is said that a bison (called “Mexican bull” by the Spaniards) was held in Moctezuma’s menagerie in Tenochtitlan.

It certainly could on desert maps but might be a little out of place on jungle maps. European maps have aurochsen and boar, so there’s no reason Aztec maps can’t have bison and javelinas.
