No need to hurry

I seriously want to praise the dev team for their incredible speed releasing all the content for the Expansion Pass. Demeter released last month, the Fan Pack two weeks ago, Blood and Bones yesterday and the Aztecs will be out in April 21st, less than a month from now! That is a LOT in a very short period of time, specially since most of us assumed it would take until June for everything to come out.

I also need to commend the devs for their willingness to take feedback from the community and pivot when necessary. It’s impossible to please everyone, but it seems that most of the big changes made in the latest patches were positively received by most of the community.

With those considerations in mind, I also feel that some of the these last minute changes could have been avoided if the team had a few more weeks to polish stuff. The Demeter pack was great, but there was clearly stuff that felt rushed like the missing animations for the Harpies and Hamadryads, the wonky balance of the new heroes, techs that didn’t work as intended that are now having to be patched post-release. The Blood and Bones is a great new addition too, but the lack of variety in skeletons types and some of the questionable choices with the ā€˜Prismatic Essence’ also make me wonder if a couple of extra weeks of dev time to test out and polish this feature would have made a big difference.

With The Aztecs coming out in less than a month from now, I fear that it might suffer from the same issues that Demeter had at release that are still getting patched as we speak, but on a bigger scale… My point is: Devs, we love your work, you’re doing a great job, but please take your time if you need to, the community can wait a few more weeks for a more polished release.

I fear that’s what’s going to happen (though I hope I’m wrong): the minor gods, visual designs, and mythical units shown all look improvised, poorly executed, and mediocrely designed.

Hasent been the case with japan or china. Demeter aside the track rƩcord for design and looks of units has been great.

Yeah they are releasing it sooner than I had expected. I’m really hoping that they take extra time if they need it. As much as I want to play the new DLC, I want to play it in its best form. The fact that they have continually listened to feedback and improved based on what the community has been asking is what’s still giving me hope that it will be amazing. I wish they would have some type of beta. Seems like it could be really useful for early feedback before major decisions are made.

I would like them to take their time, and have open betas for feedback :slightly_smiling_face:

Hopefully not, but honestly I wouldn’t put this out of possibility for now.

If they actually deliver with Aztecs that will be great.

If not, well, the game would have clearly descended into ā€œcheap cashgrabā€ territory and it would become clear to pretty much everyone.

We’ll see.

I’ll correct you; two cosmetic DLCs, Aztecs and plushies.

Will the fact they rushed this dlc mean they won’t be doing another any time soon?

My guess is that there will be more in the second half of the year, but that won’t be announced until at least late may or early june.
This is pure speculation, but perhaps we’ll get Inca DLC in october.
They went Chinese, then Japanese, now Aztec, very likely next Inca (since there’s already an Inca campaign character) and then it’ll be about what region will be picked next. Celtic and Slavic? Persian and Babylonian? Zulu and Yoruba? India and Polynesia? We’ll see.

The issue with Hindu is that it’s a religion thats still practiced to this day. So I highly doubt it’ll ever be added to ensure not to affend anyone. All the pantheons featured ingame are based on old religions that have long gone extinct, or are no longer in practice so the devs can predict or interpret the myths, Gods, and mythological creatures all they want without the fear of being smited as we can tell is purely fiction. Not to mention the majority of the old Gods and their respective religions have been replaced or converted into either Judiasim, Islam, or Christianity. (It’s facinating how Hindu lasted this long in general as its a religion that predates all the current ones that are still in practice).

That’s true for the Ensemble Studios pantheons (when not counting modern paganism practised by very small minorities nowadays). But Chinese folk religion and Shinto never disappeared.

I used to think the same thing. But then they added the Japanese, with gods that continue to be worshipped in Japan to this very day.
Also, I didn’t say hindu. I said India. There are other religions in India, that aren’t practiced today, but are also quite recognizeable, like vedic.
