If you are sure that the language is set correctly, yet Steam refuses to download the French voices, then that is an issue on the Steam end which the production team is looking into.

In the meantime, could you try the following:

  • Open the installation directory of the game (usually in \steamapps\common\AoE2DE)
  • Open the “wwise” directory. Do you see the “fr” directory in there? Does the directory contain files that end with .wem and .bnk?

If the files are missing, and you can’t force Steam to download them, then there’s a potential work-around you can do in the meantime. To manually download the French voices:

  • Press Win+R, then enter steam://open/console
  • The steam console tab will open. In the input field at the bottom, paste the following: download_depot 813780 813788 406044614908464924
  • This should start the download of French voices from Dec 18th. The download progress will not be shown, so please wait until it says “Depot download complete”.
  • When done, you will get a path in the console (which should end in \steamapps\content\app_813780\depot_813788). Open that path in your windows explorer.
  • Now select and copy the “wwise” folder, and paste it into your \steamapps\common\AoE2DE directory), so now there should be “fr” inside.
  • Run the game again to see if French narration works.

If you get any error at any of these stages (especially during download_depot), please let me know, as this could indicate a potential reason for the issue.

Thanks a lot! This is what I needed.
Looks like you somehow do not “own” the “license” to the language packages (which is definitely unintended). That is why it doesn’t download, and happens on multiple computers with the same Steam account. I’ll now forward this to the team for further investigation.

In the meantime, can you answer the following questions:

  • When did you purchase the game (activate on your Steam account, during or after the pre-order stage)?
  • How did you purchase the game (Steam store, a retail key, etc.)
  • Did you participate in the beta prior to purchasing the full game?

The more information we can get, the better for resolving this soon. :slight_smile:
