Nomad Gamemode has incorrect spawn script

After testing Nomad (introduced in the last patch I found bug and not really ideal behavior. Both are equally are problematic and don’t feel right, making the experience of playing nomad extremely predictable.

[BUG]

  • Units that are not villagers are spawned on same position as villager. This should never happen, every unit should be spawned on random unique position.
  • There are only 3 spawn positions for villagers, no matter how many villagers are added.

[RANDOMNESS ISSUE]

  • Spawn Radius is used in a way that forces units to be spawned on Circumference, instead of choosing random position within the circle drawn by radius from the point. While this is random, it does not feel right as all players basically spawn in kind of same way. Result is that units always spawn in vertices of equilateral or isosceles triangle.
  • This behavior was verified by modding ArmyBag->SpawnRadius to different values.

Current nomad is neither moddable or valid replacement for mods that use just simpler random spawn script.

Hey @Woprok! Could you go into more detail about what you mean by this piece:

Yeah, I left it there but the issue is better described as following:
Starting units are set to 3 villagers in Nomad. HRE however has 4 starting units 3 vils + 1 prelate. Prelate spawns always on same position as one of the villagers.

But if you dig deep the issue is that no matter how many starting units(doesn’t matter if it’s or it’s not a villager) are defined in Attributes there are only 3 positions for each player generated. So every unit after 3 will spawn in one of these 3 positions.

Gotcha…I see what you’re saying. However, I am curious if there’s any specific case where this causes a gameplay problem in Nomad. Any thoughts?

At bare minimum having Prelate next to Villager from start means that HRE can seek other villagers and kill them (you can’t fight them as Prelate heals more then villagers deal damage), degrading whole experience.

I also noticed that Malians can’t make any Cows in Nomad. Not sure if that is intentional or not but that kind of sucks removing a core civ feature.

I just tried Malians in Nomad and could make cows.

Never had the cow problem too.

Think the problem with the devs made nomad your villagers start to close together so you can use 3 to fight straight away. If you play english and hre. Or chinese you build twice as fast. If you build your TC next to another player with chinese you have a big advantage.

The other nomad modes your pretty spread out. Maybe something in-between the distance is better
