Since the DLC, nomad FFAs and 4v4 games now use the “Gigantic” map size. It’s too large. They favour booming and cavalry civs too much. Also elephant civs are very frustrating to play on these maps because they’re so slow.
FFA should always use Gigantic size, its dumb and stupid you spawn next to someone and now u gotta duck it out or die
even as a top FFA player you cant avoid this if some gold / silver player decides to attack you, you are guaranteed to lose 1-2 villagers or all in the fight, nothing is skillful about this
I disagree. Gigantic map size just turns the game into a turtle fest. Large incentivizes aggression more. It’s fun when you spawn next to someone, that’s the whole point of nomad FFA.
With the gigantic maps I would say it does feel like forever to get an army across the map to attack. They really have to travel. You can mitigate this with a forward production base, or again as above you lean into cavalry or faster moving civs
You genuinely have no idea what you’re talking about. I do, because I have a 53% win rate in FFA and top 150. And I know that being aggressive is what got me there. Obviously you don’t just blindly attack anyone near you. You have to calculate based on where the other people are and what they’re doing. If you can kill someone and then have no nearby neighbours, you are generally ahead.
Point is, gigantic map size games are just less interesting because people just sit in their base and boom. The earlier encounters is what makes it fun.

and most games atm you are next to someone unless someone choose to go very far away but they will be down alot of villagers
Fighting off ppl at start with villagers is nothing skillful and a waste of time, and alot of ppl will quit / donate kings if they lose the first 1-2 villagers
