Red Bull Wololo: El Reinado, there will be an event for all the games in the saga, except AoE3.
What’s going on? IDK, is a shame.

There is definitely no prejudice or discrimination. It’s a wisely calculated business decision. WE is a great company that loves all its children so much.
…player number…sales…competitive scene…viewers…blahblahblah…
Because we all know RoR has finally succeeded in attracting all the 1million AOE1 players in Vietnam to buy the DEs and now it has a huge competitive scene with millions of viewers.
If they treat you bad it’s mostly because you are doing bad. The world is a fiercely competitive place. If you want fair treatment you should earn it.
You’re going to get a dlc so shut up.
Or they just happen to choose a time where there happens to be nothing to promote for AOE3 (yet again).

Is this exhaustive enough or anyone wants to add anything?
I clarify, marginalizing in my language does not mean discrimination or prejudice, it means isolating. If it is misunderstood, I can change the title.
I believe that we always have to push for a little more, obviously appreciating what we have. But here there is an important problem that I think needs to be solved, and it is not a marketing issue imo.
First of all I’m being sarcastic…
It is obvious that the management cares nothing about this game. Otherwise I can’t see why AOE3 news almost always miss major events, or major events always miss AOE3 news.
Every time a new game or expansion drops or gets announced they host streams or tournaments to promote it. Have you seen anything like that for anything AOE3?
The only explanation is they never feel the need to promote it. “Oh let’s move this big event to another time to accommodate the AOE3 news” is not part of their consideration. It can be AOE4, or 2, or RoR, or AOM, or mobile, but not 3.
They should just group AoE3 with the AoM games instead.
It’s much more the successor of AoM than any AoE game. And as far as World’s Edge is concerned, AoE3 doesn’t exist so it’s pretty much a myth to them.
Or rename AOM as the third game of the series.
There are two clear evolution paths: AOE2-AOM-AOE3 and AOE2-AOM-AOE4 with AOM as the branching point. As AOE4 is a huge step back from AOE3 (from a design perspective here, not gameplay, even though I would say the same for gameplay), AOE3 should be thrown into outer space and AOM fills its place.
It’s ironic that the only one of the 5 titles in the entire series that was initially crafted for competitive play style is absent from AoE’s biggest competitive events.
I feel pretty ridiculous. That is probably one reason why the whole AoE series will never be able match Blizzard in terms of competitive RTS.
We need an official statement about why AOE3DE was left out !!!
It’s not worth talking about this, they don’t listen to us.
However it is true.
I think it just boils down to people think aoe3 isnt esports “ready.” Tbh a showmatch would have been doable dunno why not even that.
While a game that would be just released (maybe still have not survived the first wave of major bugfixes because we all know how s****y releases are nowadays) at the time is…
Seriously, if AOE3 is branded as a “not-esports”, casual, pve game, they should spend efforts on making better sp and co-op contents for it.
But they end up selling the custom map pack with 0 additional effort for AOE2.
That maybe true, but Aoe4 itself will be played in Empire wars mode which is a non esports mode as much as i know. SO there is no excuse in that regard. They could have done a couple of friendly showmatch.
Most likely they don’t want low viewership numbers. It’s all about numbers. However I like to think they are scared if aoe3 was ever played at big platform like that, it will pull many players from the newer aoe4.
So perhaps AoEIV was shoehorned otherwise it would look really bad for Microsoft/World’s Edge if it was a n-show? Wow. Didn’t the viewer numbers take a nosedive during IVs tournament? I saw multiple people claim that.
I can’t help but lol at all of this.
The ironic thing is that AOE4 was made with the intention of being the “competitive AOE”.
of course it is tge organization making commercial decision.
but really think for a sec, even we have aoe3 on the table, is the shitty spectator mode we current have - able to carry through a larger scale tournament?
fixing the commercial benefits by
fixing competitive gameplay by
fixing audience base by
fixing the shitty spec mode
I my opinion, aoe3 is not very balanced for competitive play. Choice of civs or decks can drastically change the chance of winning a game so it doesn’t reflect the pure skill of players. This is also reflected by players having big elo differences with different civs.
A player can be 1700 with aztecs but 1200 with Hausa. Or 1600 with Ottomans or lakota or USA but 1200 with british or Japanese. In aoe2 a players elo is quite fixed within 100 elo no matter what civ he picks.
Also the game is very asymmetric and even pro players don’t learn every civ instead they play a few best civs and tournaments have civ repeat…that’s bad for esport viewing.
And of course the constant arguing and flaming among top players have a bad image for the community.
Then the community is also split. Asian players don’t play with European players, no communication, discuss in different forums and platforms, therefore it is hard to organise a global event. Players don’t even know who are the top players from other regions. All these platforms. Unlike in aoe2 players from different regions actually communicate and form a global community.
So to sum up:
Unbalanced game
Asymmetric civ design
Split among community
Flaming and toxicities among pros
Small player base.
I understand why they never include aoe3.
every popular rts are like that. no large tournament are 1 civ tourna.
sure add a random civ matchup in rank like aoe2 does.
Because the timeframe of this game, you know, there’re something everyone can’t talk about in western game insdustries nowadays.
Thus there’s no any surprise that WE are keeping downplaying this game.
I’ve already resigned myself…I expected them to put AoE 3 DE in the RBW between 2020 and 2022…now I directly prefer that they put the RBW where the sun doesn’t reach them…I’ll watch it simply to support Retold, but with me don’t count for anything else…
Yes, the Baltic DLC is appreciated, but in communication and marketing they do it in a disastrous way…why do you release a DLC and not promote it in the biggest tournament of the saga? You can even do a mini-tournament with the European CIVs plus the new ones…then you have to smoke the tryhards of 2 making fun of the fact that they don’t put AoE 3 and the game is not to blame, when it also wants to shine and they discredit it…I am between anger and dismay , it makes me want to go to World Edge and say “screw you, I won’t buy anything from you anymore”…
Yes, until AoEO the saga was evolving well, with AoE 4 it took a very strong setback, staying halfway between AoE 2 and AoM, although with the successive dlcs it is getting closer to AoE 3…
That’s true, but there are actually 6 games (although everyone always forgets about poor AoEO)…
They will say: “For AoE 3 players we will do what we did in 2022: a separate tournament organized by the ESOC with the new Baltic dlc, since we are disgusted to see it in the RBW”…
Yes, let them agree on what they want…they don’t end up doing good for one game or the other…
And they don’t even do that well…
Yes, I agree, until they solve that we will never see AoE 3 in RBW…
If that were the case, they wouldn’t have released dlcs for the game in 2021, 2022 and now… besides, what is this about hiding history? History is what it is and we have to learn to live with that… colonization and extermination of native civs and the overseas trafficking of people from Africa occurred even if they want to hide it by being politically correct…
