We’re not gonna make it out AoE3 bros
at least this time they didn’t fuck it up in marketing by putting aoe3 in like last round
although, remember when it was too much for them to do a 4th game last round but now they magically can but still leave 3 out and instead use the unreleased AOM retold, something’s very wrong here
also before anyone repeats the tired old arguement of aoe3 isn’t esports ready, if 3 isn’t how can an unreleased AOM retold be then?
Not only the viewnumbers took a nosedive but also the prizepool, from 300,000 dollars to only 50,000.

Asymmetric civ design
The same can be said for Aom.
That’s mostly due to a certain individual, which I will not name.
It that was a criteria than AOM should definitely not included and AOE1 is only played in one country and it’s the vanilla version.
Let’s summarize:
When AOE3DE was released there was no tournament or any promotion.
When the anniversary event synchronizes with a major AOE3 update and there was no mention of jt.
When the big me ajor AOE3 DLC drops there was no mention on any of the events either.
When AOE3 got the F2P mode they still did nothing besides the routine civ rotation (which is gone too).
Even to portray a 18th century event they use AOE2 editors.
They have not tried even once. Yet they already know promoting this game is not profitable and the tournament will have low view numbers.
But they have much more confidence for a game that would be just released, or a game that fails to attract the legacy players from Vietnam twice.
For other games:
If a game is just released it needs promotion.
If a game is doing well it needs promotion.
If a game is declining it needs promotion.
If the game gets major updates it needs promotion.
If a game belongs to a series it needs promotion in the “whole series” events.
But none of these applies to AOE3. Whatever situation it is in (and it has gone through all of these situations), it does not need promotion.
I would buy such self-blaming arguments if the company is all about 2/4. But over time every excuse we’ve found for them was proved wrong by themselves.
Like “oh maybe they don’t want patches to overlap” and they instantly released an AOE2 patch a week after the AOE4 one.
Like “oh maybe they consider AOE2 and 4 as more esports profitable” and then AOE1DE, AOE1DE returned from the grave in the form of ROR, AOE4 but in casual mode, and even the unreleased AOM all joined the party. Just look at how much mental gymnastics they made to justify their inclusion yet they don’t even care to do the slightest for AOE3. Not even a show match.
In conclusion, aoe3 is a dead game. Let’s play aoe2 and 4!
If political considerations were the main reason, then they should’ve heavily promoted the African DLC and the revolution updates like how they spent a huge portion of advertising resources (not a lot overall btw) on “native American changes” when the game was released.
And that had not happened either.
Like, I tried to rationalize their decisions before as well, but then an instant counter example emerges, so I gave up.
Oh no they only have such limited budget and time yet they are still working sooooo hard to make this an amazing event for the FRANCHISEEEEEEEE
I’m sooooooo moved.
Maybe we should apologize to them for misunderstanding.
I feel nothing but angry.
They never give a chance to AOE3.
Lol, are we supposed to feel better because the do, in fact, really like AOE3? what a joke.
“despite aoe3 not being part of the event, this is much still a celebration of all the franchise”. What an insulting proposition, but not unexpected. You said everything you needed to say, AOE3 is not on your eyes part of the Age franchise, where you can have a game that died TWICE (AOE1 DE and RoR) before a better game, fun a playable. Vietnamese people are NEVER going to migrate to those games, but I guess its better to alienate a part of your community for the fleeting promise of capturing an audience that you are NOT going to entice.
Its unfortunately something what you just dont understand. But here are my thoughts about this.
You get since Months a 0 information handling, we have to play since like 3 Months with a bug Abuse civ like USA, some civs dont get touched for no reason like Otto e.g, Aztec, Africa idk.
Then they announce a new DLC in a pretty vague way like not even a exact date, we didnt get anything in the meantime since they released the new dlc. In addition to that you would expect that your company trys to push new content, so you automatically would assume that they get aoe3 in just to push the selling of the DLC as well as to give the game a chance to grow up since we being in bad spot opinion wise since like 10 years. But how do you change a public opinion if you dont give your product even a chance in the public ? Also its very questionable that there is 250.000 Dollar price pool, every single game gets included and only ours isnt ? like Huh ? The only logic conclusion you get from this handling is that there are multiple reasons obviously getting handled in a very bad mood - Communication, Background stuff, no plan about the game about its future, no roadmap, no stable budget as it seems. Like for real - How do you expect to improve something if you handle it that bad ?
To me this seems like a Doktor Jekyll / Mr. Hide problem. On the one Hand they try to hold the game alive and on the other hand they dont support it properly. If you think about its pretty confusing isnt it ?
I didnt even speak about the game itself yet. But lets mention some things which are clearly needed.
- a proper UI where you can interact in game with your friends. Like the current UI seems like 2000 boomer like.
- a proper Casting Tool - Why not working together with people from other parts of the franchise to get something developed in a solid way ? Even Aizamks UI from 2018 is way better as the current stuff.
- Fix Out of Syncs xD Like we actually know why recs go OOS (due to skins, Game settings) fix that. Its not that hard lol.
- Ranked Seasons, Map Ban, Civ choice according to the Map. Take an Example from AoE4 here!
- a proper circle about patches. Like since DE we had enough patches just not in a regular way. So why not making it like that we get per year 8 Patches 4 Mayor Patches, 4 Hotfixes e.g
- a better communication with the community and their executives ( content creators)
- a better using of the “News” Subject in the Main Menu. Like the last activity is mentioned from 2020 xD
- Rewarding Players in terms Profile Pictures. Right now we have players who didnt got a new picture since 9 weeks xD like why the game is rewarding overall not personally connected ?
- spend Love to the Historical Battles and Challenges. Since Release there is a single official singleplayer challenge - a poorly bombard challenge xD, Make Historical Battles as own content. Thats great Stuff, even Multiplayer Gamers have fun with it. Why not using it as advantage for Singleplayer Gamers ?
- Support People who have the backbone of this community and working for projects Websites, Companion Site, Aoe3 App or Tournament Organizers. Why not supporting them in official channels, with social media posts, cooperate with them ? I dont see a single reason to not do it, if you spend 250k for one tournament. Its not like that AOE3 needs 50k every single 6 months ^^
Last but not least i would say the biggest Problem for this game is the communication. I would start properly talking to the community and tell them what is going on and what we can expect for a upcoming year. Also it might be the case that you get help from people of the community but if you dont ask or talk to the community then you cant expect much more as only frustration.
cheers
If this is any other franchise PR (mobile game for example) talking like that, the company will be review bombed into broke in like half an hour.
Aoe4’s prizepool has fallen since last time. It is less than half the amount for Aoe2. Also, the last wololo winner was directly seeded to the final match xD. So for him, it is just a showmatch. Whether he wins or loses, he is guaranteed to take home a large amount of money. They also changed the wording of tournament rules when the playerbase complained about Empire Wars mode being non competitve. Such a mess.
I do feel they are genuinely worried Aoe3 can steal the shine from Aoe4 further, because it is already not doing as well as expected.
But the “playerbase” (not including AOE3 players) is happy so they won’t.
It is kinda funny that the game that had the dlc that sold the most in the entire history of the franchise has just 10k more prizepool than a failed aoe1 port in aoe2.
All games end up being more casual than competitive I guess.
So I don’t buy the argument “AOE3 is not competitive enough to be included”.
I have a bridge to sell all of the AOE4 people that actually believe this claim.
