One tiny change to french church card

“Code Napoleon” should also affect sansculottes
Code_Napoleon

Its a bit strange, that code napoleon gives no benefit to napoleonic france

Given some of the changes (such as to coffee trade) I think changing it to +10% gather rate and +10% Building cost would be reasonable.

It already gets used in treaty and the card is worth it for the grens.

Im not so concerned about balance, this is more about flavor ^^’
I would like sanscullotes to get the 10% boost, since they are the villagers of the french revolt/napoleonic france. It doesnt make sense, that they dont get affected by napoleons law

Coffee trade change shouldnt have been a thing. Dutch has become a laming mercs spam civ with many unneeded buffs

It was a good change imo. What wasn’t was giving the Dutch Highlanders, Royal Horsemen, and faster moving and training mercs.

Sansculottes are acutally reskinned Coureurs, so they share the same benefits.

Apart from that, Code Napoleon affects all AbstractVillagers including native villagers from native techs, treasures etc.

No, your statements are not correct.

Sansculottes are not affected by traditional gatherrate upgrades (market techs, techs in mills and plantations, homecity shipments) they only benefit from hp and attack upgrades for villagers.
The only way to increase sansculottes gatherrates is by sending cards from the french revolution deck

Code Napoleon does not affect sansculottes

Its perfectly fine, that they dont get economic upgrades. Revolutionary france would be OP if it had a normal economy.
But the 10% from Code Napoleon wouldnt hurt and it would be better for immersion/flavor

Its a bit weird that they enable a tech upon revolting that then doesn’t give a benefit at all. Seems more like an oversight to me than anything else.

Yes, I think they just added it to the rev for young/middle/old guard, when they were reworked, and completely forgot about code napoleon ^^

To add to what I said:

  • Coureur and Sansculottes are the same unit
  • When revolting into Revolutionary French, it ASSIGNS Military tags, REMOVES Villager tag, DECREASES the Military Stats, and ASSIGNS Gather Rate for Coureur

This means:

  • Military upgrades work on Sansculottes (the Revolt only decreases their military stats)
  • Economic upgrades dont work on Sansculottes (it resets their gather rate, and they dont carry the Villager tag anymore)
  • Military upgrades that only apply on Villagers (Great coat) have to be send before Revolt (not after revolt), as they lose Villager tag

You might find this game’s coding really messy, thats a natural reaction. In fact, most revolution options have some coding problems - but thats another topic

This is about topic is about gatherrates and sansculottes are not affected, therefore your statement is wrong. Idc how its coded and tbh it doesnt matter for this discussion.

On a sidenote: you look at the sansculottes = coureur thing purely from a coder perspective. This is “theseus” villager, since sansculottes and coureurs in a practical sense dont have much in common and the essence of “what a courreur is” is lost

What defines the correur/sets it apart from other gatherers?

-better gatherrate
-higher hp and attack
-higher cost; lower buildlimit
-its a villager

Whats defines sansculottes?
-terrible gatherrates
-even higher hp and attack
-same cost as regular vill; lower buildlimit; batch training
-its not a villager

In its function sansculottes are closer to karelian jaegers than coureurs

I want to simply tell you that making the Code Napoleon affect Sansculottes would bring more coding problems as now it is already messy enough.

Sansculottes already have gatherrate upgrades from their homecity.
So why should this be difficult to code for a tech?

At this point two techs of Code Napoleon has to be made to solve the problem.
One affects all Settlers, can be accessed only before revolt (meant to affect Coureur + other vills)
Another one that affects Coureur only, replaces the one above, can be accessed after revolt (Meant to affect Sansculottes only)

Now you have to somehow write the description to tell the player that only Code Napoleon affects Sansculottes, and other economic upgrades dont.

But cant they just change the tech to only affect courers/sans instead of AbstractVillager? If at all you will only get a hand full of other vills as a french player anyway. So as long as u research it after the revolt, this should work or not?

Sorry for misunderstanding you before

Changing the tech to affect Coureurs/Sans do work. It is also the clearest way to tell player that Code Napoleon along with other post-revolt homecity cards work on Sansculottes.

Nonsense. You only need to add +10% to Sanscoulettes in the tech. There’s no “before and after” they never make techs like that. If you research it before you revolt you will still receive the benefit after the revolt with that changes.

As I stated, there are no Sansculottes, there are only Coureurs reskinned to Sanscullotes. Hope this helps.
