But I thought the Ensemble Studios did a good job to design these 8 civ in Vanilla. The shipment system significantly enhanced tactical selectivity. These system let players continue developing new tactics or adjust tactics for different civilizations and different maps. That’s why a civilization is made a lot of deck to play by players. There are more than 100 cards you can select. You can rush, FF, semi-FF, FI, revolution, boom, fishing (or only navy), defense, war of attrition, economic blockade, etc.
Military units cards are used for rush or FF (ship a lot of military units in age 3). Resources cards are used for boom, FF, FI, or rush. Economic units cards are used for boom. Some cards developing the gathering rates or military stats are like the unique technology. Ignore the military units cards, resources cards, and economic units cards. We just talk about the the developing cards as a unique tech. There are more unique tech in aoe3 than in aoe4.
However, only two landmarks you can choose in an age. There will be less tactical selectivity in aoe4 than in aoe3.
Besides, the design of European civilizations in aoe3 is also better than in aoe4. You can definitely feel that they have different playstyle. One of reason is shipment system, another reasons is that the civilization bonus has a critical influence. For example, the Russians bonus is cheaper but weaker infantry (they are very cost-efficient) and 3 villagers in group (the other civilizations produce 3 villagers taking 75s, but the Russians produces 3 villagers in-group taking 51s). Therefore, the Russians is very good at the war of attrition when the Russians continue fight and produce villagers. The enemy will face cheap infantry in constant attacks . The Russians villagers will be more than yours; then, they have a stronger economy to build more cheap infantry to continue fighting until your resources are exhausted.
I thought only the Mongol have some interesting design to show the different gameplay.
The HRE weren’t even part of the beta? Unless there is a beta with the remaining four civs that we don’t know about?
Adam said in an interview that there are some techs that will physically change what the units look like. So maybe that’s what happening with the maceman?
Or if you made AoM, AoEO, and AoE3 DE. It’s quite disappointing to read players ostensibly experienced with Age of Empires build up asymmetric civs like they are some kind of impossible task. This franchise literally has been doing it since 2003.
So true, the more we talk, the more we could acidentaly reveal stuff that, may or may not, be implemented in game.
Our main role has, beta tester, is to keep our memories to our self, in a locked place, and wait for final game to get out and see all the change and what is the same.
The only thing i have to say is that liked the beta at a point that i pre-oder the game.
I liked all the unique units, buildings and special units.
Its hard to have a conversation about the game when there is a disparity in knowledge of the game.
I’ve never broken NDA to my knowledge. I can’t confirm or deny anything in terms of features. But i am allowed to say I was a beta tester and that Im bound by nda.
You haven’t broken NDA but some of the things you say can be dissected, lol. You do really well at keeping it under lock and key, a LOT better than other people
I felt pretty weird about the upgrades as well, they being simplified to tier 1 2 3 makes them much easier to understand and follow up. However, I missed that tiny bit of history which they had. I guess it is one of those little details that make games more interesting to play.
