Only 2 unique units per civ?

Dutch banks are no more unique than AoE4 Civ Landmarks, villagers that cost coin are still just villagers, and the unique units were just reskins of other units with slightly different stats. e.e I get what y’all are saying but it’s really not that different lol

Well with a single glance over the civ section of the website I can make out more unique traits for each civ than what you just named.
English have unique villagers too, but instead of just the different cost, they actually are different.

But the unique units in 4 are reskins

its way more complicated than that. There are tons of posts and articles out there indicating it. You are just assuming they’re only reskins. For example the MAA line seems like it will differ for each civ. The only difference is that they don’t have a fancy unique name.

Not entirely true, actually. While that may apply to some of the standard units, like the MAA… We already have confirmation that there are statistical differences between the unique units in AoE4.

The Abbasid Dynasty “Camel Archer”, for instance, is an Anti-Cav Cavalry Archer… While the Mongol Magudai specializes in hit-and-run tactics.

The Camel Archer also reduces the damage of nearby enemy cavalry, which is pretty unique.
For this I’d have to send a shipment via card system in AoE III.

I can see where you’re coming from, but I wouldn’t really want to rule out the possibility of post-release adjustment to the overall civ structure just yet (perhaps I’m just in denial here). Yeah, I don’t think they will come out with a whole bunch of unique units they’ve hold back on so far just to dump them into existing civs at a later stage, but I do still think that small visual adjustments, as well as a more thorough differentiation in terms of stats between the standard units of respective civs, is entirely in the realm of possibility, should they decide that they want to go that route of bringing the asymmetry between civs forward. Or maybe that’s just whishful thinking from my part.

chinese and asian strategy and techonology in general wasn’t the same as in europe. in europe we developed towards very heavy cavalry with specialist infantry while in places like china most soldiers fielded far more rudimentary weaponry with some unique takes on artillery.

In my opinion, each civ should have a minimum of 5-6 Unique Units.

Civs like HRE, Chinese, and Saracens deserve up to 10-15 Unique Units.

For example, the HRE should contain Teutons civ, Bohemians civ and Burgundians civ from AoE 2 + much more (Italians civ from AoE 2 too?).

There’s a strong possibility that all of the unique units aren’t listed on the AoE4 website civilization pages. :stuck_out_tongue: Each civ only lists 3 units, each.

edit: The Chinese is described as having, “impressive constructions” and “gunpowder strength”, but doesn’t list any unique gunpowder units… Hmmm… :upside_down_face:

what is wrong with becoming like AOE 3?

Im confused why you would say that. The fire lancer and nest of bees were both ancient gunpowder units.

Do you mean the same gunpowder pole arm unit called the Fire Lancer mentioned in the middle of the image you posted?

Edit: sorry, I thought you all were talking about gunpowder units

Maybe the best informations is yet to come???

In total, there are two months to the release of AoE 4, and now we have just been presented with the last two civs - HRE and Rus.

Maybe during the last two months we will be presented with more detailed information and descriptions about each civ, maechanics, units, etc?

Maybe not the best example, but still. We probably shouldn’t assume that each Civilization is locked into exactly 3 unique units simply because they chose a webpage format that only reveals 3 unique units.

personally i expect them to be grouped into general cultures, it makes sense for HRE, France and England to have some basic units in common and then each getting some unique variants similarly to how it works in AOE 3.

honestly when they said “the most asymmetrical AOE game ever” i was expecting something beyond dumb gimmicks like packing up buildings.

like i am not impressed mongols cant get to age 4.

They said that? Like in comparison to Aoe3 or AoM with all their expansions? Sounds like that spokesman only played aoe2…
