Can we agree to something? Something that will not change the gameplay but just will make the game better looking. Can we have ships use the x2 graphic for the x1 game?
What does it mean, is ship units having the size doubled.
This will not change the gameplay, as the proportion will be for all the ships, but it will make transport ship more reasonable to have 20 units in it, and having the ships proportions better to unit proportion.
Anyone who agree with me, please post your opinion so we can maybe achieve this goal.
Currently ships are already really big compared to their stats.
Ships are weaker and cost less then some land units while being bigger then any land unit.
If ships were just scaled up with no other change this mismatch would be even worse.
A Scorpion costs 75 Wood and 75 Gold while a Galley costs 90 Wood (without Shipwright) and 30 Gold despite visually being much larger and also firing scorpion like bolts.
At the current size all ships should be 2x as expensive and 2x as powerful to realistically make sense.
If they were bigger they would have to be like 5x as expensive and powerful to not be comically weak for their size.
What are you saying is a step further, to match even resources, but this would be a long debate, as for example a tree has 100 wood, and with 3 tree you can construct 4 scorpions. So I was not looking to go throw all this, but just to increase only the graphic of the ships.
The AOE2 has better building size proportion in confront to AOE1, and I think the ships were the only not given 2 times larger graphics.
So yet again, this would be just a visual change, that would make the game look batter for soo much less effort.
yes, it is true, the current collision size of a warship is 0.5, and that of a villager is 0.2, so I don’t know how it is normal that a ship should be thinner than 3 villagers shoulder by shoulder.
The collision size will increase, but it is not a parameter in the game itself.
I actually like the idea. All it would take would be grabbing the _x2 files, renaming them to _x1 then putting them in a local mod folder, to get a crude mod working.
Have you tried this OP? Could you post some screenshots?
I think it should be a toggle. And not only for ships, but everything.
A ship that big suddenly appearing out of such a small building? If so one should see the ship be built.
And the horses being… Speed trained
I would love big ships, but I think there should also be fewer ships.
Make galleys 5pop, 5x more expensive, then we can have truly awesome warships.
Burner ships (demo rafts) could be more realistic, as taking out 1 ship with 1 demo could be worth it.
Longboats could be smaller, cheaper, lesser pop cost.
It would open up so much design space.
And, as OP said, it would look better.
If you just make the graphics different without adjusting the stats, ship overlap will look ugly
