1，skirmisher translates to 长枪兵 in game now，in fact it should be 散兵. And 长枪兵 in Chinese is always misleading, because 枪 means gun and also means pike. So we are always difficult to explain to new plays that 长枪兵 is skirmisher not the pike.
2, hussar translates to 轻骑兵 in game now, but 轻 means light in Chinese, while hussar is heavy cavalry , so it is misleading too. We have to tell new players that the light cavalry is heavy cavalry in fact . Translate hussar to 骠骑兵is correct .

And there are also **枪骑兵**. As the OP pointed out, the Chinese word “ **枪** ” can refer both to a firearm and to a long spear or a cavalry lance. So **dragoon** can simply be translated as “ **龙骑兵** ,” following the conventional Chinese translation.

Meanwhile, translating the Spanish cavalry who used lances as **枪骑兵** would make the terminology much more familiar to Chinese readers.

I also hope the developers understand that the terms used in my post and the OP’s post are, and have long been, the standard terminology among players in the Chinese Age of Empires III community.

Although the Chinese version of the game uses different names for these units, those official translations are actually very confusing. As a result, Chinese players in the community generally do not use the official in-game names. Instead, they use terms that are either more historically accurate or more natural and familiar in the Chinese context.

If you ask an average Chinese person what “长枪兵” (spearman) or “枪骑兵” (lancer) means, they absolutely, absolutely would not think of a Skirmisher or a Dragoon.

You can even search these Chinese terms directly on Google to verify this.
