((PETITION) Remove horns from nordic helmets please):

I would like to bring up this point again: Huskarls and Throwing Axemen did not have (childish) cow horns in the original AoM. Horn lovers already have Hersirs, Heroes of Ragnarok, Einherjars… with horns.

I can see this would be upsetting from a historical and aesthetic point of view. It’s a shame that I can’t tell from the screenshot if they do or don’t, nor do I care but good luck either way.
It’s “Age Of Mythology” for a reason. If it was “Age Of Empires” then your point would’ve been understandable. But for a more Mythic and fictional game such as this, this should be added. Vikings having horn is after all portrayed historically to demonize the “Viking Invader” after all.

While historical Norse warriors did not wear horned helmets these type of helmets were used by Germanic peoples for ritual purposes. The act of using ritual clothing as a part of dress is a standard technique of communicating to an audience that they are now in the realm of the divine and mythological. Notable examples of this is Aztec gods being depicted with turquoise earrings and other adornments, depictions of Kami in jōe, or the dress and instruments of the Mobeds being with Yazatas. Mythology isn’t constrained to a singular place or time, it is best achieved by symbology that transcends a specific placement. So while the horns might not be historically accurate they are mythologically accurate

Beautifully explained, thank you! People should stop worrying too much with the historical accuracy of a video game about mythology.
@Valkling @BaphometSLM @bigbossbro08 The point of my suggestion is not so much about the history but about the aesthetics, to avoid the typical childish “cow horn” that appears in cartoons for children. Based on that, I am requesting the original look of a unit that previously existed without horns.
There are more units with horns (not childish horns) for the Norse´ (Hersir, Ragnarok Hero, Einheriar, Froze gigants) I don’t ask for those horns to be removed
This is the tipical “cow horn” from I want run away

Once again most people twist the topic to “it’s not historically accurate but it’s fine to have horns” just like the last post.
The problem is adding horns to every unit.
