Plz redesign German into a new civ. maybe Austria DLC or a Variant Civ

Holy roman empire

I want to make Germany’s gameplay more diverse. Given that the age-up systems of the African civilizations, the United States, and Mexico allow them to gain additional technologies or cards, the Old European civilizations as a whole have less diverse gameplay compared to the African civilizations, the United States, and Mexico.

As a result, Germany’s gameplay in 1v1 matches is very predictable, and the number of units it can effectively use is also quite limited.

In addition, many of the newly added German cards, such as Prince-Electors, Princely Bavarian, and Circle Army, do not have enough impact and are rarely used in most situations.

Therefore, I want to redesign Germany while adding as few new units and new mechanics as possible, making Germany more interesting to play while keeping it sufficiently balanced. I believe the African age-up system, together with the existing European Royal House Native designs, can be utilized to redesign Germany as follows:

Civilization name (Germany) renamed to Holy Roman Empire

Germany starts with the ability to build 3 Churches: Cologne Cathedral, Mainz Cathedral, and Trier Cathedral. The card (Treaty of Westphalia) is granted to Germany as a civilization bonus from the start. Which means the Churches have an additional technology, Treaty of Westphalia, using the same icon as the Treaty of Westphalia card. The additional Church technologies originally belonging to the card (Treaty of Westphalia) can be unlocked by spending 300 coins at the Church.

For each Church owned, the age up time from Age I to Age II is reduced by 5 seconds, from Age II to Age III by 15 seconds, from Age III to Age IV by 10 seconds, and from age IV to Age V by 10 seconds.

The age up options is changed to work similarly to the African civilizations, with Prince-Electors being selected instead of politicians. A Prince-Elector that has already been selected cannot be selected again in the next age. There are only two options in the Imperial Age.

I really hope the devs will consider reworking Germany and France, even if releasing them as a new DLC. If the game has to have OP civilizations, I’d rather they be true great powers like Napoleon and Frederick

The civilization is not Germany it’s german.

It’s perfectly fine as it is. Giving it a completely different age up style, which belong to civs in Africa to boot, will do nothing but add complexity to the game and ruin mnemonics.

I do remember people wanting Germans and Italians to use the federal age up system

Another thread about reworking Germans? Oh boy I sure love some “original” ideas!

They’re one of the most reworked civs compared to other overlooked civs so I don’t any need to change them again.

In AoE III DE Germans have gotten new cards, politician options and reworked revolts that make each one feel more different.

Soon Germans are getting new revolts which includes a unique one.

I am happy with how Germans are where you can play them like in the old game if you want or you can do new things with all the new stuff. A massive change to Germans that changes how you have to play them I am totally against.

Ports need a replacement for Organ Guns and for Encomienda Manors, and explorer skins that aren’t based on post-colonial Brazil.

Can the Devs just remove the Germans and replace with a tiny less impactful civ like San Marino, out of spite please?

Replace them with 30 Indian civs

Or even replace it with Lichtenstein! Tilanus reference

I think this kind of request is very unlikely to succeed, especially now that Prussia and the German Confederation have been added as revolutions. The most we could realistically hope for is perhaps asking for more German revolutions—such as Austria—and improvements to the Hungarian revolution.

Your idea is really striking and genuinely positive, but—bro, let’s be realistic—given the current situation with Germany, I don’t see it as being very feasible for the developers; it’s a lot of work for something that won’t generate any real financial return.

Nevertheless, I hope your petition succeeds and that we see part of what was published here come to fruition. Good luck with this petition.

Personally, I don’t even think they need to fully replace the Organ Gun: just give me a Card that replaces it with another unique unit, like a Berço gun. Encomienda Manor is the one that I’m still baffled that it wasn’t changed, since the only thing that it needs it’s rename it to something more apropriate to the Portuguese Empire.

You know what, I was totally going to suggest that with Tilanus in mind, but I didn’t because i just know someone was going to say “well actually Lichtenstein was in the HRE” :joy:

Alpine DLC with Switzerland and Liechtenstein…:joy:

The AoE3 Portuguese civ could use some tweaks and additional Portugal or Portuguese Empire-specific references, mostly for flavor reasons.

We can and should include references to the Age of Discovery and Portuguese controlled areas. This can include locations like Brazil, Goa, Macau, etc. but not their post-independence phases (ex. Empire of Brazil).

The explorer skins that are heavily associated with post-independence Brazil can be used for a potential Brazil civ if it comes by, but they can stay with Portuguese civ in the meantime so that people that paid for or prefer them don’t lose the content. Portuguese can get explorer skins for historical figures like Ferdinand Magellan, Pedro Álvares Cabral, Vasco da Gama, or João Ramalho. Having them be actual explorers and navigators fits with the Portuguese Spyglass ability too.

Encomienda Manor is just the name of a church tech not an actual building the Ports can build. We can change tech to Fazenda Labor which references colonial-era Brazilian plantations and fits with the current effect of buffing mill gather rate at the expense of gathering rates for other resources. I’m pretty sure a potential future Brazil DLC might straight up just use Fazendas as their economic buildings anyways.

I’d keep the Organ Guns at this point, but we can add an HCC to allow the creation of Berços. It could be an Age 3 card:

Berço Defenses - Sends a Berço cannon, a faster firing artillery variant that does additional damage to ships and slightly more damage to infantry. Berços can now be trained at the Artillery Foundry.

Age 4: Upgrades Berço to Berço Manuelino (+25% hit points and damage)

Age 5: Upgrades Berco Manuelino to Imperial Berço Manuelino (+50% hit points and damage); requires Berço Manuelino

Along with the other options in the Artillery Foundry and Estremoz Field Guns, the Portuguese civ would have some nice artillery options.

There is a lot more than can be added of course but these are the most obvious changes.

Oh you mean Fazenda.

From the one person on the official discord who I know is Portuguese:

Also, fazenda is Portuguese for farm, so if they do rename it I hope they’re at least smart enough to not name the tech (in the Brazilian localization) the same as the generic building.

Ooh good catch, I’ll fix it.

I thought fazenda was a specific plantation type. I suppose a hacienda-clone for Brazil would be fine. Maybe Engenhos could work since sugar cane/sugar is still “food”.

I tried a Swiss Confederation mod that was pretty decent. Not sure how the devs would squeeze in a Swiss civ but I’d play if for whatever reason they make it.

I completely agree with what you said. When I saw that Germany’s revolution options include Prussia, and that Prussia can then revolution again in the dev build, I realized that there probably isn’t much room left for major changes to Germany, at least for now.

That said, I still hope the devs will see my point. I really want to see some of the older civs get proper redesigns as well, rather than the game always focusing on adding new civs.

Maybe this kind of idea could even be used for a future Austria DLC, if we ever get one. Or perhaps something similar to AoE4, get Germany a Variant Civ.

Instant fail! There is no “Germany civilization”!

The game allows to play as “the Germans”.

Moreover, what is an Age up? An Age up is not meant to be a simple change in political party. It is meant to represent a social and technological evolution, as different periods of time. Enough with the state age up system!

I only remember the Swiss in the Napoleonic Era mod (waiting for them to be added to the WoL)…

Civilization: The Swiss are a mobile army civilization. They require few and inexpensive buildings (barracks costs gold and can moved by turning it into a wagon via the tent), and have few gatherers. Their gatherers can also be used as skirmishers and can use stealth while still being able to gather. They have mobile supply wagons which produce a constant stream of resources, are able to supply the Swiss army with crates of additional resources, provide economic and church upgrades, train surgeons and can act as a mobile dropoff point for shipments. The Swiss have early access to Halberdiers, but late access to Musketeers. They have access to an additional Arsenal-style upgrade for their Halberdier-type units. They have Royal Guard Level Crossbowman with a tent improvement but they do not have imperial level hussars.

Unique units: Supply Wagon, Forager, Reislaufer, Swiss Guard
Royal Guard units: Reislaufer, Swiss Guard
Unique Buildings: Tent, Bivouac
Personality: Henri Dufour

Yes, either Austria is a new civilization or directly another revolution like Prussia, and this in turn becomes Austria-Hungary (reworked Hungary, which would cease to be Ottoman and be replaced by Serbia and Greece) (the rest of the civilizations of Eastern Europe would also receive Austria-Hungary)…
