Since the FE team has an obvious infatuation with WC3 I think they should go full rip-off mode. I know the World Editor is in another dimension compared to aoe2’s integrated one, but there’s some stuff I believe would be possible to integrate.
- Particle weather effects (map-wide or localized): Rain, blizzard, sun/moon rays, fog.
- Improve the “night” map lighting into something more of just a bad washed out colour mood.
- Tall city walls that function like cliffs.
- Extra player colours.
- Show radius on Map Revealer objects while in the editor.
- Add LOS blockers.
- Remove the engine cap on LOS.
- Allow parentheses with strings on object names shown in the editor but not in-game.
- Cinematic letterboxes, with the ability to turn off AI in the middle of “cutscenes”.
- As always, more and more eyecandy objects, units, buildings, terrains, triggers, whatever!
Adding in sub-maps able to carry over information inside variables would open up crazy possibilities, though that one might be very overambitious. Think the Founding of Durotar campaign from WC3.
Better editor → better game → infinite fun
das it.
