If the Ethiopians gain access to Battle Elephant and Elite Battle Elephant do you want to apply the bonus of the ethiopian UT Royal Heirs (-3 damage from mounted units) to the elephants. Note : the Ethiopians lack the last cavalry armor upgrade.

Being fair Axumites and Nubians did use elephnats even after the fall of Rome so it COULD work but Eth civ doesnt have great bonuses for them

I can see the inspiration for this polls from the likes of the Aksumite invasion to the arabian peninsula in the 6th centuries and the year of the elephant (pretty big events for Islamic religion too).

But I don’t think the current Ethiopian balance need the battle elephant. If the change is for flavours, I think elephant archer or siege elephant is more suitable for them.

Also the editor only heroic unit the Abraha Elephant is directly based on the year of the elephant events

As far as I know, the use of war elephants by the Ethiopians is still debated. There’s an interesting discussion about this on historum.

Also, although the aoe2 wiki says they were inspired by Aksum and the Zagwe dynasty, the Ethiopian civ seems to be more based on the medieval Nubian kingdoms. We all already know about the Archers of the Eyes, but archaeologists have also found fixed trebuchets (I know, they’re not torsion machines) in some of their various fortresses.

The later and more medieval Solomonic Dynasty, occupied a more mountainous territory and thus did not use siege engines; they did have archers, but they placed emphasis on cavalry and infantry. King Amda Seyon I even created a regiment of swordsmen and another of shield-bearers. Along with a new campaign, (imho) a split of Ethiopians into Nubians would be ideal.
