So, I am curious myself. I took part in the old MS poll/survey awhile back but, I dunno if they ever released the results. Although, I want to know what the community wants. So:
“IF you had the choice to influence what the developers to add/update into the game, which of the following would you want?”
in game idle TC timer, which can be turned on off based on a setting. and a sound like housed that tells you your TC is idle, at least for dark, feudal and castle age. If in game is not possible at least provide it in the recordings like CA.
The posibility to select AI difficult for each individual AI rather than the whole game (being able to play a scenario with different AI levels)
More scenario/real world maps (I guess it counts as updated scenario, but I don’t mean event scenarios)
More architectures (Byzantines and Spanish same architecture?)
Official support for custom scenarios: Cobra Racing Stadium, Lord of the Rings Custom Map (not that because of copyright, but the same mechanics), Soldier Store, Alterlast, Roll the Dice, Sheep Soccer, Paintball, Castle Blood Automatic.
fix what’s broken first. Only then add more, this is embarassing
-stop the crashes to desktop (this should literally never happen)
-get pathing to an acceptable place
-remove/fix the chat censor
-fix the lobby browser (lobbies still don’t always show up, can’t find when searching)
-let us play again with the same team-mates
this should have all been there since release. it has been over 4 years. I am not going to spend another cent on this game until we see real progress on these. This latest “DLC” was the last straw
Generally quality of life features including but not limited to:
A fix to the weird theme discrepancy between the main menu (modern ish theme) and the multiplayer menus (medievil scrolls theme for ranked/ lobbies spectator etc.)
A client side colour wheel so we can customise colours for individual players.
A fix to make holes between buildings less confusing. Buildings shouldn’t look like they’re touching if they’re not. Often times this happens on hills which are generally hard to build on so perhaps a hotkey that toggles a flat map view.
Fix the missing ban for 3v3s. If 3 players queue up for 3v3 they get only 3 map bans. 2 people going 2v2 get 4 bans and 4 people going 4v4 get 4 bans so what’s up? Honestly I should report this one as a bug because it really strikes me as an oversight.
Speaking of oversights, fix allied AI stealing your sheep if they claim them. Allied AI should send your sheep to you.
Random civ pool presets. So you can select a bunch of civs and and get one of them random. Sometimes you want just a cav civ without picking one. Or archer or CA or a nomad civ or whatever.
More simultaneous players. If PC’s can’t handle it then make it so the extra players gotta play co-op. Can you imagine 16 players controlling 8 civs playing a 4v4? Sounds sick!
Not a scenario editor person but it strikes me as unintuitive and clunky so perhaps a revamp?
The ability to find tune handicap bonuses. What if I want %20 more HP but same gather rate?
Make siege tower half its current ridiculous price. 200w 160g that’s a siege workshop and a ton of gold.
More hotkeys. Select all archers/cavalry/knights/whatever. Or select all visible archers/cavalry/knights/whatever. These examples aren’t exhaustive and there’s so many more I’m not going to list. The only unit the Dev’s should be careful adding hotkeys for are monks.
Add a night mode that looks good. The fog of war is replaced by darkness and every unit and building get illuminating lamps. Ofc if fog of war is darkness then unexplored areas need something new (perhaps another colour)
Release the missing cheats. I missed the resource sharing one
Allows us to chat with people we’re in queue with. Yes %90 of the time we’re with them in voice chat, but sometimes you invite a random from a previous match.
Provide an easier way to change alliances. The menu blocks your view and in Diplo games sometimes you want to switch alliances fast. Perhaps UI similar to Capture Age’s but clickable. Ofc you would only see your own alliances.
Provide an easier way to change will you’re talking to (same as the above).
Some love lesser played maps would be great too. Crater lake currently has you’re boars frequently spawning behind big woodlines.
Fix deer pushing meta on open maps. On closed maps it’s fine. There’s usually not much else to do so going through the motions and pushing deer to keep yourself busy is good. On open maps however it’s tidious and now mandatory since players figured out it’s not important than scouting.
While we’re on the deer topic make the follow command follow closer. The art of war missions state it can be used to push deer but that doesn’t work as the scout stands too far for the deer to be startled. There are other use to the follow command like following enemy trade carts without attacking anything to enter a gate but that’s super niche.
This is probably somewhat unpopular but, remove heresy. There shouldn’t be a tech that makes a unit line useless. Also make faith’s effect less for siege. That way monks are still useful late game converting siege. As they currently are, monks can’t convert bombard cannons %99 of the time. Even against onagers your very unlikely to get a conversion. This is something that The viper has said in done of his matches when he tried monks vs onagers.
For people concerned as monks are already powerful, most of their power is early mid castle age. And did their will be some clown low eco fast imp games affected by the suggested changes but in the grab scheme of things I believe it’s worth it for monks to be useful in imp.
Ingame support for custom civs. It would clean up the mod centre from ask the krakenmeister mods and provide and provide a more accessible way to make new civs. More freedom with civ bonuses would also be great (increasing and decreasing % for different bonuses
Revamped social aspect of game. Ingame chat rooms, icons for clans and perhaps a clan ELO and clan vs clan matches.
That’s all I can think of for now (that hasn’t been mentioned). Will add later anything that comes to mind.
Bug fixes should never be up for debate.
Bugs need to be fixed!
I think everyone agrees on that. But that doesn’t mean you are supposed to derail every feature suggestion thread with “No because the game still has bugs.”, this mentality won’t get us anywhere either.
More DLC campaigns. There’s so much to explore worldwide. I believe the topic of new civs is always a hot, debatable one. But new campaigns can’t be opposed to by principle e.g. “I don’t wanna hear about Italy or Kublain Khan”.
Doubt it will happen someday and online players may hate me for it (I only play SP): navy gameplay a litle bit ike in AOE3 or anything that makes it realistic. Huge ships that you can’t build beyond a certain number. I mean, to build and comission a ship is always a special event since the dawn of time. The way naval units behave today they’re like land units walking/fighting on water.
Units operating siege units and the War/Ballista Eles.
Some campaigns: William the Conqueror, Richard the Lionheart, King Arthur, Crusades (including Iberian Peninsula).
actually what I would like more than anything else is a regular (fortnightly or monthly) AMA with the development team, where they give honest answers to the questions we have
openly communicate about:
-controversial units/techs/civs
-technical issues
-plans
-meta changes like map pool voting, matchmaking, elo resets etc
I think this is more important than any new content, any fixes, any other changes
You know those kbquery triggers in AoE3 and AoM? We have XS functionality so adding those would be cool. If you have those queries, adding Modify name/HP/Speed/Name… for individual units, as XS functions would be even better.
If I had to pick one only, I’d go with changing/added support for regional skins without the need for a data mod.
Because right now, any civ is linked to a unique regional set (west, central etc.) with the respectable file naming corresponding to this (eg. b_west_windmill.smx). Which means you can only change the entire set, not one civ. A simple change such as adding an extra architecture textfile/json that links civs to architecture folders with the option to overwrite civ specific visuals or add additional ones would be great. So basically “independent architecture (IA)” build in. If done correctly, the change by default would add a couple kilobytes, however giving the options to expand indefinitely if the player wishes.
As a singleplayer only, i can’t emphasize enough how diverse architecture boosts immersion and game fun.
If they could make memeable event mods for the free, they can add a Samurai on horseback for the new dlc. I don’t know how long it takes for them to make these lolmods but I would rather them spend that energy making regional unit mod based on the unique heroe skins that will never see the light of day if you don’t play singleplayer or campaign. An official mod to change Persian architecture to Central Asian.
Yeah, you are right. (I dislike the bugs too and yes, they need to be fixed. although, as long as they are not “game breaking”, they are lower priority. “Some” I know need to be fixed but others, they could wait. As a programmer, this bugs the hell out of me but, that is pretty much standard procedure. I would prefer it to be the opposite myself but eh… You are not wrong.)
edit: I do want to mention one thing though after reading the rules. I do NOT consider this a petition thread. (I am just honestly curious for public sake.) HOWEVER, if the developers want to use this information, that is their choice.
edit: Interesting results thus far. (I’ll leave it there to not start debates but, I do have much to say. So, I will keep it to myself.)
