I don’t know if it’s a good idea. Everyone wants to break umbrellas Slavic, Indian, etc. I think Lithuanians are a great name for this civ and you don’t need to change it. It is enough to make a campaign about the Prussian Uprising in which we would play Lithuanians - after all, Lithuanians would have their own campaign. Of course, Lithuanians may also appear in a potential Polish campaign - there as the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.
It is worth noting that the rest of the Balts were not so lucky and were conquered by German orders - Prūsai by the Teutonic Order, and Latvians by Livonian Brothers of the Sword. So only Lithuanians were not defeated.
Definitely!
There is no other better candidate from Oceania that we do not have representation in the entire Age of Empires series!
At least let there be one civ from this part of the world.
3 units for this civ are fully understandable. The fishing boat should have a typical Polynesian model. Besides, there should be another navy unit - a Battle Boat. Of course, an infantry unit should also appear. The architectural style should be unique. The technology tree should be close to the Malay civ Tech Tree.
You right.
Sounds great, but it’s for the future. They could come along with a Finno-Ugric umbrella - Finns civ.
The lack of South Slavs in this game is painful…
I would like to see two South Slavic civs - Serbs and Croats. Each of these Civs would be unique. Serbs would be a defensive and fortified civ, while Croats would be a naval and commercial civ.
Croats would have Mediterranean architecture and Serbs would have Eastern European / or new Byzantine.
The Battle of Kosovo should necessarily be the Historical Battle, the Battle of Varna and the Battle of Grunwald as well.
anything really, estonians, a northern crusader faction getting their own civ, finns, latgalians/proto-latvians, one of the proto-russian duchies, basically anything that’s not in game atm, but bonus point for anything that can be related to the northern crusades (since we can all agree, that the holy land is well covered already)
I would prefer any of the above than splitting the Teutons civ into Teutons and Bohemians (especially because it opens a can of worms, but then why not Saxony, why not Bavaria, etc. etc.)
Doesn’t matter. Teutons are used to represent the HRE, Bohemia was part of the HRE, so adding this would feel sad when there are still many unexplored options available
Was India one country at the time like it is today? I’d guess not.
Well yeah, technically we could start just adding subsections of existing civs, but I think that would be rather a waste when there are plenty of interesting new ones to add (and a limited number of total civs that can be added)
Was HRE one unitary state? Was HRE homogeneous in terms of culture and nationality?
I’d guess not.
From all over the HRE, a large number of interesting Units could be found. Moreover, the individual states of the HRE were very important in history. The Czech Republic was one of the most important and interesting countries in the HRE.
Besides, they can get Hussite Units, but for you they are probably boring …
Indeed not, but non-homogeneous countries were relatively common. E.g. Spanish, not even close to homogeneous at the time, but the civ still certainly makes sense to have. The HRE was a recognizable enough entity. It was able to field an imperial army when needed (usually), and exert influence on other countries around it, conquer territories etc.
Indeed, but so were many of the individual states that we now umbrella as Vikings. Or Chinese. Or Saracens. So this kind of splitting I’m not too happy about, because it’s just like opening pandora’s box
Uhh… literally Age of Empires 2 itself… the insignia that you see in the user interface where you select units is the Imperial Orb of the HRE, If you play against the Teuton AI in a Skirmish, every single AI name for the Teutons is related to the HRE. In the Campaigns, where you play Teutons, you’re one of the HRE emperors, etc.
also another major germanic branch has its own civ (Goths)
Dont use the example because you are salty please, we have talked about this enough.
I wish Bulgarians were Serbians since honestly Bulgarians are just too similar to the current Slav civ and even were orthodox and had Boyars so at lesst if we have Serbians people would have one less civ to complain about
My previous post was deleted because chain-post was reported.
Anyway my point was, Serbia had an unique variety of units such as
Gusar (irregular light cavalry shock troops, forerunners to hussars),
Vlastela (unique heavy cavalry with less armor and more speed),
Buzdovaner (heavy infantry which commonly used flanged mace, this wasn’t unique only to Serbia, however flanged mace Pernach or Šestoper/Shestopyor somewhat was).
Sagena longboat (similar to Viking Drakkar, it carried around 40 men) - Sagena ship was used by Serbian Adriatic pirates (9th-11th century) known as Pagania or Narentines pirates, their leader had a title Judge. Narentines - Wikipedia
So there is definitely something new to add, not just historically but also in game mechanics, which can be entertaining to play with. I am still hoping to see it in game…
To be honest, if we don’t get Serbians with Dawn of the Dukes which will probably add two Slavic civs at least, I don’t want them considering that it would lead to complete overrepresentation of a world region. Expansions of the past represented completely new world regions and it’s sad FE seemingly departed from that.
